I bought a ps4 slim about 2 weeks ago and I've been playing BO4, BF5 and other games just fine. I decided to return it and purchased a ps4 pro. Ever since I bought the ps4 pro, I haven't been able to connect to the online multiplayer on BO4.. I keep getting the silver wolf error. I can play every other game just fine but I cannot play online in BO4. I was able to find a temporary solution in that I'd have to hotspot my phone, connect to BO4 online, then switch back to my Lan connection. I can play okay by myself this way but I am unable to join parties or lobbies this way.

I can't get router access because I live in a house with 3 others and the guy that owns the place is illiterate to these types of things, internet wise, and won't let me get access to the router to port forward.

Is there any kind of software that can be used to port forward without direct router access? Anyone have experience with this?

Hey everyone, I’m currently a college student, and have setup a server that handles both file sharing via SMB and media streaming with plex. I currently live in a university apartment, so I cannot access my router to allow port forwarding and I am most likely behind a double NAT. I’m looking for a way to be able to access my fileserver remotely and am unsure of the best options.

So far I have been able to come up with 4 possible solutions, but they all have some drawbacks.

  1. Setup a VPN to create a private network of my devices, while using portmap.io to expose it to the internet.

    • added cost for portmap.io

    • less secure

  2. Rent a VPS to create a tunnel to my server

    • added cost for vps

  3. Use a small/low power pc at a friends house as a VPN server to vpn into my own server.

    • poor network speeds (friend only has about 40Mbps down and 15Mbps up)

  4. Use TOR to tunnel to my server

    • terrible network speeds

Are there any other options that I am missing/overlooked? Has anyone had success with any of these methods?

  • My server is running proxmox, with an Openmediavault VM for the file server, and a Ubuntu VM for plex

Opening a port on Linux (just like on Windows) will allow traffic on that port IF that traffic can already access your network.

If you're looking to allow traffic from other devices on the network, opening the port will work fine. You're probably using UFW or iptables in Linux.

If, however, you're looking to allow a connection from an external source, you'll need to allow it through the router as well.

I would say, no its not possible. You can still play multiplayer using something like hamachi but you do need router access to portforward.

You could try zerotier or ngrok instead if it's a private server, but if you want a public static address, playit.gg is probably your best bet.

I'd suggest connecting the server machine to the router with an ethernet cable, wifi can be laggy/droppy as well.

If you are just playing with a couple of friends casually you could use a VPN, but this is absolutely not a viable solution for a serious server

Why no login to the router? I'm guessing this is at work/school?

level 2

no, because the password has changed, and i dont know the PPPoE password
