This just happened to me with my galaxy watch 3 and I forgot to take my watch off next to the MRI. I can't seem to get any answer on the internet on whether anyone has successfully had their watch repaired or if it is an automatic brick and a replacement may be needed. If I remember I'll report back on here what I ended up doing. I am looking at going to a repair place to get their take on it... Options
After driving across town in rush hour to the authorized samsung repair place, i get there and found out they moved locations the other way across town and didn't realize it. After that I said screw it and bought another watch. Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new
question. I was working in a 3T MRI today and I forgot to take my watch off. I was moving things around right at the opening of the bore when I felt my watch pulling on my wrist. I just walked away, took it off and didn't think anything of it because the watch seemed to be working just fine. But now that I am home the watch wont charges anymore. The charger does not locks into the watch anymore, it seems that the magnetic element inside got shifted around or the magnetism got inverted because now it seems to repel the charger rather than attract it. Will an MRI damage my Iwatch? The hardware is not likely to have been damaged but every magnetically stored information will have been wiped out. This includes everything the watch comes with when you buy it.
What does an MRI do to a smart watch? The MRI's strong magnetic field can intensely damage your expensive watch as well as potentially cause danger or harm. Just go ahead and take it off. Better safe than sorry!
Can an MRI damage electronics? The magnetic field may damage electronic items. Do not have an MRI scan if you have an implantable cardioverter defibrillator or pacemaker. The strong magnetic field created by the MRI unit may interfere with how these devices work.
Can MRI damage cell phone? Why? Because an MRI scanner´s powerful magnetic field... can damage or completely destroy hearing aids, watches, cell phones, PDA´s, storage media, insulin pumps, electronic keys, etc.
