We’ve compiled a list of 30 hospital surgeries in private hospital using the government’s new tool to show you the median cost (the middle) that health funds covered in 2018-19. After all, a lot of the value you get is what folks like us pay when you need to use your cover.

The figures in the final column are what you’d pay if you didn’t have hospital cover and you wanted to enter private hospital as a self-funded patient (spoiler: not fun for your pocket!).

Remember that half the surgeries cost more than the figures quoted. Hospital doesn’t come cheaply!

Is tonsil removal covered by Medicare. Medicare will cover a tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy, providing you have the surgery done at a public hospital.

For a common procedure such as a tonsillectomy, the total price can range from $8,000 to $10,000 even with a cash discount offered by most hospitals.

Can I get my tonsils removed Australia?

Your surgeon may choose to remove them as well. This procedure is called an adenoidectomy. Removal of both tonsils and adenoids is called an adenotonsillectomy or tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy (T&A). Around 48,000 tonsillectomies and/or adenoidectomies are performed in Australia every year.
