Program Overview

The BS in Aeronautical Engineering (BS AeroE) is a five-year degree program designed to prepare students for becoming Aeronautical Engineers. The BS in Aeronautical Engineering program deals with the methods and principles of flight. It also covers engineering disciplines applied in research and development, manufacturing, operation, maintenance, repair, modification and inspection of aircraft, spacecraft and their components.

Recommended Senior High School Strand

Students who want to pursue a degree in Aeronautical Engineering are encouraged to take the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand under the Academic Track. The strand provides the basics of applied mathematics and sciences that will be useful in their college life.

Admission Requirements

Qualifications

  • The student must be a high school graduate.
However, if they were not able to graduate high school, they may opt to take the Alternative Learning System (ALS)
and pass the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) to qualify for college; the availability of courses for PEPT passers depend on the university.
  • The students must pass the College Admissions Test of the university.

Program Outcome

Graduates of Aeronautical Engineering are expected to be able to:

  • Maintain aircraft for full operation including making regular inspections, maintenance and servicing.
  • Create aircraft, components, and support equipment.
  • Supervise the assembly of air frames and the installation of engines, instruments, and other equipment.
  • Participate in flight test programs to measure take-off distances, rate of climb, stall speeds, maneuverability, and landing capacities.
  • Resolve issues that arise during the design, development, and testing processes.
  • Modify designs to improve safety features or minimize fuel consumption and pollution.
  • Work with teams, suppliers, clients, and managers to agree on budgets, timescales, and specifications.
  • Communicate technical and regulatory advice to clients, teams, suppliers and other professionals within the aerospace industry and presenting data to groups and individuals.

On-The-Job Training/Internship

During the fourth year of the program, students are required to attend an On the Job Training (OJT) in an aviation or flight company. 

Students are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in an actual work setting. Usually, universities require them to submit a written report on their tasks, learning experiences, and hours rendered. Their work performance will also be evaluated by their immediate managers and will be submitted to their respective OJT coordinator. The number of hours required may differ in each university.

Board Exam

To become a Licensed Aeronautical Engineer in the Philippines, a graduate of BS in Aeronautical Engineering needs to pass the Aeronautical Engineer Board Exam. The examination is conducted by the Board of Aeronautical Engineering under the supervision of the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC). The Aeronautical Engineer Board Exam is a three-day exam held once a year in the month of November.

They may apply for roles such as an aircraft interior engineer, aircraft structural engineer, aircraft manufacturing engineer, aircraft maintenance engineer, aircraft system engineer, aircraft design engineer, aircraft mechanic, ground radio operator, or aeronautical engineering professor.
