How many Twilight Zone reboots are there?

We are five weeks away from the fifth dimension. On April 1 (naturally) a new version of The Twilight Zone will premiere on the CBS All Access streaming service. This is the third revival of Rod Serling's classic, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Prior reboots of The Twilight Zone aired on network television in 1985–89 and 2002–03.

The upcoming Twilight Zone comes from the mind of Oscar-winner Jordan Peele. Well, not entirely from his mind. There will be remakes of classic episodes alongside fresh tales.

Earlier today, CBS revealed the first look at the new series in an effectively eerie trailer. It skips between scenes from various episodes as menacing cellos saw away in an interpretation of that classic theme music. (It sounds a bit like Jaws, actually.)

We see much of the new cast, including John Cho (who has previously played Sulu) and Greg Kinnear (who once played Col. Hogan). The episode that will immediately jump out at even casual fans is "Nightmare at 30,000 Feet," a remake of "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" with Adam Scott (Park and Recreation) in the William Shatner role.

Our favorite moment is a stuffed toy of the classic "20,000" airplane monster, washed up on some rocky shore. It's a cute nod to the original beast — and it implies some significant plot variations. Does the plane crash?

Take a look. See if you can spot remakes of other classic episodes. And, of course, rewatch the classic originals six nights a week on MeTV!

After a long wait, the second season of the new, Jordan Peele-ified Twilight Zone premiered on CBS All Access last June—but it didn't take long for the show's devotees to devour all 10 episodes. Between the return of the Kanamits (of To Serve Man fame) and several fresh, twist-ready plots, there was no shortage of speculative stories to enjoy. (The all-star cast, anchored by Peele's own performance as the narrator, didn't hurt either.)

So, will there be more to look forward to? Here, what we know about the future of The Twilight Zone.

In February 2021, it was revealed that the show would not continue.

CBS All Access, which will soon relaunch as Paramount+, has decided against creating a third season. "Jordan Peele, Simon Kinberg and the entire production team truly reimagined The Twilight Zone for the modern age," Paramount+ head of programming Julie McNamara said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "They upheld the classic series' legacy of socially conscious storytelling and pushed today's viewers to explore all new dimensions of thought-provoking and topical themes that we hope will resonate with audiences for years to come."

After two seasons, Jordan Peele and Simon Kinberg’s The Twilight Zone has been canceled. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the CBS All Access anthology show has not been renewed as the streaming platform rebrands to Paramount+.

"Jordan Peele, Simon Kinberg and the entire production team truly reimagined The Twilight Zone for the modern age," Paramount+ head of programming Julie McNamara said in a statement to THR. "They upheld the classic series' legacy of socially conscious storytelling and pushed today's viewers to explore all new dimensions of thought-provoking and topical themes that we hope will resonate with audiences for years to come."

Like Rod Serling’s original The Twilight Zone, which ran from 1959 to 1964 and currently airs on SYFY, the recent version was an individual episodic anthology. In addition to executive producing, Peele was also the narrator for all 20 episodes that ran over its two seasons. The series had an impressive roster of actors as well, including Kumail Nanjiani, John Cho, Adam Scott, Chris O’Dowd, Steven Yeun, Topher Grace, Tracy Morgan, Seth Rogan, Greg Kinnear, Jason Priestley, and many, many others.

The last episode of the show aired on CBS All Access (soon-to-be-known as Parmount+) last summer. Though the series wasn’t greenlit for a third season, the existing episodes of the reboot will be available on the rebranded platform.

While The Twilight Zone isn’t moving forward, Paramount+ will still have a ton of new genre content, including a Halo live-action series, a new Star Trek show for kids, and an entire studio dedicated to creating shows and films set in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
