Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening received mostly positive reviews. It received a score of 8.0 out of 10 from GameSpot, complimented for its combat and questing but criticized for its "disappointing story" and less memorable characters.[8] IGN gave the expansion a score of 8.5 out of 10 stating that the game has "an epic story that has loads of surprises and lots of momentum, but too bad it doesn't feel that good compared to the original."[9]

For that price, definitely. It's a little short by comparison to Origins--only took me around 13 hours to 100% it completely--but it's got a super interesting story that delves into the backstory behind the Darkspawn as a race. Ending's terribly abrupt, though.

Another problem is it's incredibly easy and you'll find yourself to be really overpowered throughout. It's still fun and the combat looks a lot flashier than it does in Origins at that. Besides the Darkspawn history, there's also some pretty neat political decisions you have to make, and there's some likeable party members for you to recruit, too. Including Anders, who's a party member in Dragon Age 2.

Story wise it's not important really, though if you enjoy Origins it's a good expansion. It's only semi-important in terms of story when it comes to Dragon Age 2 and even then it's not crucial at all.

Considering the extra depth it adds to not only the Darkspawn but the Blight as well, I'd say it's pretty important. It also stars one of BioWare's best villains, if not the best.

I see what you mean though I've never been huge into the lore. I meant that the events of awakening don't set up those of DA2 or expand on those of Origins in a crucial way.

For centuries, the Grey Wardens (the ancient order of guardians, sworn to unite and defend the lands) have been battling the darkspawn forces. Legend spoke that slaying the Archdemon would have put an end to the darkspawn threat for centuries to come, but somehow they remain. You are the Grey Warden Commander and have been entrusted with the duty o ...Read Moref rebuilding the order of Grey Wardens and uncovering the secrets of the darkspawn and how they managed to remain. How you choose to rebuild your order, how you resolve the conflict with "The Architect", and how you determine the fate of the darkspawn will be but some of the many complex choices that await and shape your journey as you venture to the new land of Amaranthine.

When focusing on the main objectives, Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening is about 13 Hours in length. If you're a gamer that strives to see all aspects of the game, you are likely to spend around 21½ Hours to obtain 100% completion.
