I'm talking about the code itself before redeeming it. Just a bunch of numbers and symbols.

They shouldn't but a bot may brute force your code. I think it happened to someone on here who left a code for 2 months or something

I wasn't that guy but I did lose about $30 in codes I had sitting by brute force... was kinda bummed

I know that they used to - my mother in law lost out on $100 we gave her, but I believe its against the law for that to happen now

No. The code doesn't expire but you may end up losing it. If it's not a large amount, I would apply it to your Amazon account. If it's a gift card or gift cards for a large amount, I would store it in a safe place and treat it like cash--it will be more secure in your person possession and you will be able to resell it later.
