Pokemon Sword & Shield players can get their hands on free Mystery Gifts with special codes in 2022. If you’d like to claim them for yourself, there are some tricks you need to know, but they have deadlines — so make sure to act fast!
If you’re looking to catch ’em all in Pokemon Sword & Shield, opening some Mystery Gifts in the game will certainly help you along the way. Unsure of how it all works? We’ve got you covered.
With both expansions for Sword and Shield — The Isle of Armor & The Crown Tundra — released, there’s nothing stopping us from opening some special gifts in the Galar Region this year to get ahold of some rare items and Pokemon.

Mystery Gifts are a great way of claiming free goodies to help you on your travels across Galar.
How to claim Mystery Gifts in Sword & Shield
Mystery Gifts are completely free, containing helpful items to use on your journey. These can be unlocked in a number of ways. Occasionally, there will be free codes linked to an event like a Pokemon anniversary or new release. Players can also unlock Mystery Gifts through Ranked Battles and in-game events.
While it’s true that these gifts mostly have different variants of PokeBalls in them, recently, actual Pokemon have also been added to the mix (though this is still rare).
Pokemon Sword & Shield Mystery Gift codes (September 2022)

Shiny variants of Zacian and Zamazenta were the latest codes Trainers could redeem.
There are currently two Mystery Gift code available to claim in Pokemon Sword and Shield for September 2022.
The first code will give you a Gengar inspired by the one Ash used in the Pokemon anime. It needs to be redeemed by September 15, 2022.
The second code will give you a Dragonite inspired by the one Ash used in the Pokemon anime. It needs to be redeemed by September 8, 2022.
Ash’s Sirfetche’d code was added on September 9, 2022.

Mystery Gift competition rewards
Trainers who participated in the Test Your Luck! Online Competition can access a free reward with a special Mystery Gift, rewarding 50 BP when claimed.
To redeem it, simply follow the below steps up until step 4, and instead select ‘Get Battle Stadium Rewards‘ to obtain your free Battle Points.
How to redeem Mystery Gifts in Pokemon Sword & Shield
Claiming your Mystery Gifts in Pokemon is easy, but you won’t be able to do so until you complete the game’s first event in the Slumbering Weald, where you encounter Sword or Shield’s Legendary Pokemon for the first time.
Once you’ve done this, follow the steps below to claim your Mystery Gift:
- Load up Pokemon Sword or Shield.
- Open the game menu by pressing X, then select ‘Mystery Gift‘, with the pink present icon.
- Select the ‘Get A Mystery Gift‘ option.
- Choose which method you want to use to receive a gift. If you have a code, select the ‘Get With Code/Password‘ option.
- Collect your gifts and enjoy!

Head to this menu to redeem your Mystery Gift codes.
Once claimed, Pokemon will be added to your Party or your Pokemon Boxes if there’s no room. Fashion items can be found by visiting the fitting room of any in-game boutique, while Non-fashion items will appear in your Bag.
You can see previously downloaded gifts by choosing ‘Check Mystery Gifts‘ in the menu.
