I LOVE the Blue Yeti Microphone.

This is gonna be a short but comprehensive tutorial about how to use the Blue Yeti Microphone.

When I first bought this microphone, I honestly had a rude shock. Along with my voice, it also took in loads of background noise, so you’ll have to record in a quiet place.

It turns out that you’ll need to adjust some settings for it to work nicely.

It IS the best value for money microphone and works awesomely. If you turn up at any forum or discussion about microphones for video creation, there’s a 95% chance that you’ll be recommended this microphone. It’s that good.

Bonus: It looks fabulous too!

The Blue Yeti is a Side-Address Microphone

The Blue Yeti has 4 modes: Cardioid, Stereo, Omnidirectional & Bidirectional mode.

I typically use the Cardioid mode, which is the mode you should be using. When you put it on Cardioid, you will sound better as it eliminates a lot of other noises that comes from the back/ sides of the microphone.

If you’re interviewing someone, the bidirectional mode would be best. Here’s an image that describes each mode which would be super useful to you.

Setting the Gain of Your Blue Yeti Microphone To As Low As Possible

The Blue Yeti captures a lot of irrelevant noise. To curb this, turn the gain to as low as possible.

You can find the technical definition of what a “gain” is, but the simple way to explain what a “gain” is how loud you’ll sound on your microphone/ how much sound your microphone is gonna absorb.

If your gain is too high, you’ll hear loud & distorted audio. If you turn it to zero gain, you won’t hear anything.

Crank the gain down to as low as possible (but make sure you don’t sound too soft)

Don’t Speak Too Near The Blue Yeti Microphone

There was once I was recording the audio for a new product I was gonna launch. After recording 3 hours of video, I opened it on my computer and realized that the audio was distorted and a pain to listen to.

I had to rerecord everything. It was such a pain!

Lesson learnt: Don’t ever put your mouth too close to your microphone! Give it a few inches at least.

How can I improve the sound quality on my Blue Yeti?

Use the cardioid pattern If you want your blue Yeti's sound to be better, the cardioid pattern is best as it allows for the microphone to focus in one direction. The microphone will no longer pick up sounds from any direction. This will result in you sounding much better, without any sound disturbances.
