How do I make my iPhone show a different number?

You need to make a phone call, but you don’t want to give out your phone number. “How do I hide my number on my iPhone!?” you wonder. In this article, I’ll show you how to hide your number on your iPhone so you can make anonymous phone calls!

How To Hide Your Number On iPhone When Making Calls

There are two ways to hide your number on your iPhone when you make calls. The first way is to go into the Settings app and tap Phone. Next, tap Show My Caller ID and turn off the switch next to Show My Caller ID. You’ll know the switch is off when it’s gray and positioned to the left.

It’s important to note that some wireless carriers don’t give you this option on the iPhone itself, so don’t be surprised if you don’t see Show My Caller ID in the Settings app of your iPhone. Some carriers, such as Verizon and Virgin Mobile, make you set this up online or by calling their support team.

You can also hide your number on your iPhone when making individual calls by dialing the shortcode *67 before dialing an actual phone number.

Solved my issues. You need to do two things. Firstly under Settings> Messages> Turn off iMessage, Turn back on again and wait for reactivation which will take a few moments.

This will sort the ID issue but not the issue displaying the wrong number. For that you will need to go to your nearest 3 store or on line and ask for a new sim - they seemed to know it was an issue when I went. And transfer happened within 6 hours our so, I had no real loss of service when the number transfered from one sim to another.

Hope that helps.

Hiya, Ive tried what was suggested and although my imessage works and facetime work and my actual number is also displayed on each of these, the number shown on the 'Phone' still remains as the old pre-ported number.

Its only just happened. Before this was correct but when I updated to ISO 5.1 it reverted back to the old pre-ported number.

Any more ideas?

Yeah I know the way they described did used to work, as I did it on my dads iPhone 4s. It has to be something to do with the new ISO 5.1 that came out yesterday.

I hope apple will look at it.

I'm having the same problem. Originally is was resolved by stopping and restarting iMessage, but with the 5.1 update the phone has reverted back to the original number.

Apparently there is an issue with the new iOS5.1 that came out a few days ago and the iMessage trick stopped working. I know its not a big deal but I'm so annoyed not having my own number up there!

Fingers crossed they will come out with a fix!
