Jazzy heavy psych covers of japanese folk songs. Works surprisingly well, maybe not a surprise since Mizutani plays on it. Whatever the man touches seems to become much better. The bands other albums are more straightforward jazz-rock/funk, very consistent quality throughout all their albums, including a couple of collaborations which are more experimental.Jazzy heavy psych covers of japanese folk songs. Excellent heavy psych blues, the instrumental solos are first-rate and it also has a couple of good softer tunes.Excellent heavy psych blues, the instrumental solos are first-rate and it also has a couple of good softer tunes.

A contemporary band inspired by japanese psych from the '70s, like a throwback to a bygone era tinged with the evolution rock has gone. One thing I have to mention is that I'm frustrated with how hard psych rock at present also has to have a lot of fuzz, where did the clean but undoubtedly heavy sound from the '60s-'70s go? Satori crushes your ears into submission under its heavy grooves yet it also has a softness in its melodies, but I digress.A contemporary band inspired by japanese psych from the '70s, like a throwback to a bygone era tinged with the evolution rock has gone. Excellent (jazzy) psych rock album, finally Mizutani comes out with his own record. This is basically a perfect record for guitar lovers.Excellent (jazzy) psych rock album, finally Mizutani comes out with his own record. This is basically a perfect record for guitar lovers.

I was mislead by the cover initially, while this is still in essence soft jazz rock, it is energetic throughout and does get wild in a couple of places with tasty fuzz guitar (track 2, excellent jazz lounge).I was mislead by the cover initially, while this is still in essence soft jazz rock, it is energetic throughout and does get wild in a couple of places with tasty fuzz guitar (track 2, excellent jazz lounge).

Everyones favorite indie noise rock band, so obscure (even while having 4000 ratings on their posthumous albums on rym) that they never released an official album in their lifetime. I jest, but this really is some astonishingly forward thinking music, drone/noise rock a couple of decades ahead of time. Still doesn't make me enjoy listening to this as I rarely put this on.Everyones favorite indie noise rock band, so obscure (even while having 4000 ratings on their posthumous albums on rym) that they never released an official album in their lifetime. Kind of similar to Amalgamation, Social Gathering and Buddha Meets Rock in that they are free-form jazz improvisations, but that's where the similarities end. Each album is different in its own unique way.Kind of similar to Amalgamation, Social Gathering and Buddha Meets Rock in that they are free-form jazz improvisations, but that's where the similarities end. It's not 'super' in the sense that it's not going to blow your mind, but you could do worse than listen to this. Great cover though, I must say. It's not 'super' in the sense that it's not going to blow your mind, but you could do worse than listen to this. Great cover though, I must say.

Jazz rock covers of classical pieces. Not all of them work, though Ave Maria is surprisingly good and Fur Elise is magnificent, but it's still an enjoyable listen. Probably the most avant-garde album in this list. It refuses to please you with anything resembling a melodious jam at any point, at times it feels like everyone is playing inside their own world. But with Hiro Yanagida, Kimio Mizutani, Masahiko Satoh, Louis Hayes playing on it, anyone with an interest in free jazz has to check this out.Probably the most avant-garde album in this list. Third member of Flied Egg. Ironically, Takanaka is also the one who has seemingly been the busiest of the three after the '70s. Not that I'm disparaging him, he has played on albums from other artists I enjoy. This album is mainly stripped down jazz funk, it's actually somewhere between fusion, funk, pop which put together sounds very bland to me.Third member of Flied Egg. While the band name and album cover might give the impression of a generic Group Sounds group, this is actually Hendrix inspired rock which is pretty good and very consistent. Might even have a couple of english tracks though I can't recall at the moment. While the band name and album cover might give the impression of a generic Group Sounds group, this is actually Hendrix inspired rock which is pretty good and very consistent. The Japanese Deep Purple? Perhaps that's too simplistic, while they are an unmistakable inspiration this album is pretty diverse. This has a proper rock band feeling about it unlike the rough sounding garage rock from similar bands in this list. The Japanese Deep Purple? Shigeru Narumo of Strawberry Path and Flied Egg makes his debut album with help from his friends in London. There is not one bad song on here and I'm not exaggerating when I say that. This is a good album exploring the lighter side of blues rock, ignore the poor ratings and give it a listen without preconceptions. It has quite a fewthings in common with Strawberry Path/Flied Egg, especially the ballads.Shigeru Narumo of Strawberry Path and Flied Egg makes his debut album with help from his friends in London. Clocking at just under an hour with a few long tunes, this album covers a wide variety of ideas and styles. The female singer sings passionately but with restraint which perfectly fits the jams, it's a shame I can't find any other works of the guitarist.Clocking at just under an hour with a few long tunes, this album covers a wide variety of ideas and styles. This album, more than most of the others, feels distinctly Japanese. The guitar tone is unique, almost doesn't sound like one (Kitajima played the Koto and Biwa on many of the songs so that could be the reason). This album, more than most of the others, feels distinctly Japanese. Laid back folk rock with a nice guitar tune. The songs twist and turn whichever way, good music for a laid back day out in the sun.Laid back folk rock with a nice guitar tune. The songs twist and turn whichever way, good music for a laid back day out in the sun.

Kawasaki is a distinguished jazz guitarist who had a hand in developing the guitar synthesizer in collaboration with Roland. Also played on some early albums by Jiro Inagaki & His Soul Media. This album is very similar to Billy Cobhams Spectrum- Jazz Funk with some fiery guitar, but perhaps not hitting the height Spectrum did with Stratus. A couple of tracks are even more funkish if that's possible.Kawasaki is a distinguished jazz guitarist who had a hand in developing the guitar synthesizer in collaboration with Roland. Smooth Jazz from one of the most popular musicians of that genre in 1970s Japan. This is all well played but isn't moving me like Jiro Inagaki or Takeshi Inomatas albums do. Pretty good prog/psych album from this 2 album band. It's a more straightforward kind of blues rock compared to that from the usual suspects (Mizutani, Yanagida, Satoh etc.,), which is a good thing as diversity is always better. Symphonic prog from the tail end of the '70s which still contains traces of psychedelic rock. Kind of like Isshoku-Sokuhatsu (below) in that both have soaring melodies which you can't help but let lift you up with them.Symphonic prog from the tail end of the '70s which still contains traces of psychedelic rock. One thing which immediately stuck me is how heavy this is, the bass is loud and forms a great base for Shinki Chen to go on rampaging solos. This is his only solo album and is similar to Speed, Glue and Shinki. One thing which immediately stuck me is how heavy this is, the bass is loud and forms a great base for Shinki Chen to go on rampaging solos.
