  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone first edition book

Soft cover. Condition: New. Mary Grandpre (illustrator). 1st Edition. This is a pristine and unread copy from the "advance reader's edition" (uncorrected proof) produced for reviewers and other book industry insiders in advance of the publication of the first American edition of this first Harry Potter book in September 1998. Please see my attached photos of this book. Note the marketing plan included on the back cover which shows the first printing of the debut American edition was planned at a remarkably low 30,000 copies. The print run of this edition was certainly much lower than that and few remain in such perfect condition.

  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone first edition book

First US edition, first printing. Originally published in the UK as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997, this printing first introduced Rowling's wizarding world to American readers. This copy contains the all the appropriate first printing issue points. Errington notes two states of the dust jacket. The first state includes a quote from The Guardian, as here. The publisher Arthur A. Levine bought the US rights long before the Harry Potter craze took off in the UK. It was, however, this American publication which marked a significant turning point in the book's history. Errington A4(a). Octavo. Original red cloth-backed purple paper boards, spine lettered in gilt, covers blocked with diamond pattern, dark green endpapers. With dust jacket (first state). Overall, a true first printing (which is becoming exceedingly rare in collectible condition) that presents beautifully. Errington A4(a). First published by Bloomsbury in England as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is the first book in the Harry Potter series. It introduces both Harry and readers alike to the secret, magical world of wizards and witches in England. Although often regarded as a children's novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone topped adult reading charts in both the United States and the UK. As Michael Winerip praises in his 1999 New York Times review, "like Harry Potter, [Rowling] had wizardry inside, and has soared beyond her modest Muggle surroundings to achieve something quite special.".

  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone first edition book

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, JK Rowling, Scholastic Press, Arthur A. Levine Books. First edition, first print. 1998. A very good copy of this classic book, the very first Harry Potter book, published under this title in the United States. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was chosen as a title for the US market as the UK title (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone) was considered rather obscure. Book is firm, with the a slight lean. Cloth of book is clean with no marks and no rubbing; corners are sharp, one corner is lightly creased, with light bumping to lower boards. No writing or scribbles inside, book is very clean. Text block is clean and unmarked. No dog-eared pages or tears. Jacket is not price-clipped. This is the true first state jacket, with all first points, including The Guardian quote on the rear panel. No discolouration. A very collectable copy of this increasingly hard-to-find title.

  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone first edition book

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition. First printing, in the unclipped, first issue dust jacket. A very good to near fine copy. A previous owner s name signed on the first free endpaper, and a little bump to the top corner of the text block. The spine unfaded, boards clean, and the contents crisp throughout. The dust jacket with two traces of damp stain to the verso only, not affecting the front. A beautifully presentably example overall. Re-titled from the Philosophers Stone, this is the very first - and certainly the rarest and most important - of the American editions in the Harry Potter series.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Mary Grandpre (illustrator). First Edition; First Printing. First American edition stated hardcover with full number line and all first edition points. Purple boards with embossed diamond pattern, red cloth spine. Top of spine LACKS the Year 1 badge, and spine is titled in gilt. Very nice condition but for a dampstain to cloth heel which barely encroaches the gutter at prelims, very slightly visible up to page 17 or so, and a very small faint stain on the red cloth front panel near crown. Tight and unmarked with crisp pages and sharp points, just a hint of a nudge to spine ends. The first printing DJ has a $16.95 price, the yellow bar code field with two bar codes, and the smaller code says 51695. The DJ back has a single quote from the Guardian saying, "Harry Potter could assume the near-legendary status of Roald Dahl's Charlie, of chocolate factory fame." The top spine of the DJ states J. K. Rowling and lacks the Year 1 badge. The DJ in mylar would be fine but for the dampstained heel, which is really only visible on the verso. ; 1; 9.3 X 6.4 X 1.2 inches.
