Greek Independence Day Parade Chicago 2022

Greek Independence Day Parade Chicago 2022

Everyone is invited to Chicago's Greektown area on Halsted Street to celebrate the annual Greek Heritage Parade.

The fun and spirited event commemorates the 202nd anniversary of the Greek declaration of independence and is a true testament to the pride and love for country that is synonymous with the Greek people.

Chicago's Greek Independence Day parade remembers the time when Greek revolutionaries and allies would gain victory over the oppressive Ottoman Turkish empire in 1821.

Since 1964, the Greek American community has made this event a fun time for all to enjoy colorful traditional costumes, a sense of community and genuine Hellenic spirit.

Beginning at 2:30pm, the parade will include floats and marchers representing churches and organizations from all across Chicagoland.

Guests of the parade are also welcome to enjoy dining at any of the famous Greek restaurants on the Halsted strip in Greektown... OPA!

Event Hours:

Sun May 22 (2:30pm-4:30pm)

Event Location:

Halsted Street, between Randolph and Van Buren

Mark your calendars for the annual Greektown Independence Day Parade! This year’s celebration will take place on Sunday, May 5 from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. It’s sure to be an exciting day filled with festive entertainment, floats featuring Greek and Chicago-based organizations and the opportunity to sample classic Greek dishes in the restaurants along Halsted Street. Windy City Greeks, Chicago locals and visitors are all invited to join the celebration as we recall the 1821 War for Greek Independence.

Greektown will share more details in the coming months, but don’t forget to save the date for one of the neighborhood’s favorite celebrations!

Our neighborhood is excited to host an in-person celebration of the 200th anniversary of Greek Independence on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. with the Greek Heritage Parade, presented by The Federation of Hellenic-American Organizations (ENOSIS). This parade, celebrating the rich Hellenic identity and culture in Chicago, returns to Halsted Street after last year’s virtual celebration.

The Greek Heritage Parade has been established as one of the biggest annual events in the Chicago Greek community since its founding in the 1960s. During this parade celebration, visitors can see colorful traditional costumes and hear historical Greek melodies as the community officially celebrates the 200th anniversary of Greek Independence.

Greektown will be bustling with activity on May 22 – including the Greek Heritage Parade, the Greektown Agora (Greek for “marketplace”), a performance by Orpheus Dance Troupe dancers and more!
