Eyeglasses aren't typically talked about as part of a beauty look, but if you ask me, they should be. This is because popping on a pair of glasses can change up your look as quickly and easily as swiping on a bold lipstick or some eye-catching liner. Whether you wear glasses every day, reach for them only on occasion, or just throw a pair on sometimes for a little extra fun, the frames you choose can ultimately dictate the way the world sees you — and more importantly, how you see yourself. (Get it? Eh?)

Factors like frame shape, color, and style all come into play and can alter your aesthetic, so when picking a pair, it's helpful to be aware of your face shape and to have some idea of what you're going for to make the shopping process more seamless. Do you know what also helps? A little inspiration, that's what. That's why we went ahead and tapped five of our staffers with different face shapes to showcase which styles suit each best. Without further ado, allow them to help you find your favorite frames yet.

For Square Face Shapes: Thin, Round Frames

"A square face is all about the angular features, like your prominent jawline and a wider forehead," says New York City-based stylist Ross McCallum, who adds that in order to add dimension and contrast to these features, it's best to choose frames that soften your angles. For this, he recommends frames that are more curved and/or circular as well as thinner, such as this pair by Zenni Optical.

"These were by far my favorite pair," says writer, model, and trans advocate, Devin-Norelle. Ze adds, "I really liked them because they accentuate the shape of my eyes — and I don't normally wear glasses, but I think I'll wear these pretty often."

  • For Square Face Shapes: Mirrored Cat-Eye Frames

Another top pick of McCallum's for those with square faces is a classic cat-eye style, as they have the desired curved effect that complements the angles of the face. New York City-based stylist and creative director Rachael Wang concurs, explaining that the strong geometry of a square face is flattered by the thick framing on the upper half that's common in cat-eye styles, like these from Warby Parker.

  • For Round Face Shapes: Clear Frames

McCallum often steers those with round faces toward clear frames that let your natural beauty and personality shine through without piling on too many distractions. These Warby Parker frames aren't too bold or geometric, so they soften round faces and make eyes pop. "I love how these clear frames opened my face up," says former visuals editor Hannah Choi. "I've worn glasses for years because of my terrible vision, so it's refreshing to have frames that make a subtle statement without sacrificing my eyesight."

  • For Round Face Shapes: Retro Cat-Eye Frames

Another glasses style that flatters a round face is a retro cat-eye frame with thicker rims. "The youthful softness of round faces is complemented by strong geometric and angular frames," says Wang. "Glasses with lenses that are wider compared to taller can also help for height so they don't sit on your cheeks," adds McCallum, who says one of his top picks would be a fun cat-eye style, like these from Zenni Optical.

"I always wear a cat eye with my makeup, so I thought that a similar shape in my glasses could be overkill. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how they seemed to complement the overall look," muses Choi.

  • For Heart Face Shapes: Rectangular, Tortoiseshell Frames

"People out there with heart-shaped faces are revered for their high cheekbones and sharply tapered jawline," says McCallum, who also notes that they tend to have a longer chin and wider forehead. "Look for frames that are a bit wider than your forehead, as they usually suit you better," he says, adding that his top choices would be styles that sweep up the face, such as cat-eye frames or these rectangular frames by Warby Parker. Wang agrees, adding that folks with heart-shaped faces should aim for bottom-heavy frames to balance a narrow chin.

"I loved discovering what glasses actually worked for my face shape rather than just picking out the trendy frames," says Allure's former associate social media manager, Madisen Theobald. "This tortoiseshell pair is a great option if you are bored with the more traditional silver/black frames."

  • For Heart Face Shapes: Navy Cat-Eye Frames

As McCallum mentioned, another frame shape that flatters heart faces is cat-eye glasses, as they "sweep up the face." These frames by Warby Parker are a perfect example. They do a solid job of highlighting prominent cheekbones while balancing out the rest of the face at the same time.

"I loved the cat-eye style of these because they lifted my face and accentuated my eyes," says Theobald.

  • For Oval Face Shapes: Thin, Rounded Frames

You could say that those with oval faces are pretty lucky, as both Wang and McCallum explain that almost any frame will work for you since oval faces are nearly perfectly proportional. "Round or aviator-style frames complement oval faces as they’re slightly wider than the broadest part of your face and bring all your features to the forefront," says McCallum. That said, Wang says you can also play with bold textures or playful shapes, too, because you can get away with it.

"I've always wanted glasses even though I don't need them — yes, I'm a fraud. I have 20/20 vision, but there’s nothing chicer than a good pair of glasses that frame your face, and I love how the gold [from these Eye Buy Direct frames] radiates against my skin tone," says beauty writer and social media strategist, Lara Adekola.

  • For Oval Face Shapes: Green, Medium-Sized Frames

These funky green frames from Zenni Optical are playful and accentuate both the brows and the eyes, as they allow them to come forward slightly in a super flattering way. They're also a medium-size style, which McCallum recommends because oversize or too-small frames can throw off the face's proportions.

"This colored pair were fun because they're so different from anything I'd normally pick out for myself, but I loved how they made my eyes look bigger," says Adekola.

  • For Any Face Shape: Angular Tortoiseshell Frames

If you're not one to play by the rules or you're not 100 percent sure you fall into any of the aforementioned face-shape categories, McCallum says you can't go wrong with a pair like these, as he explains a light tortoiseshell color, like this shade of frames from Eye Buy Direct, goes with most skin tones and hair colors without clashing. What's more, he says, their slightly curved style will flatter most face shapes, including round and square.

"Typically, I stray away from tortoiseshell glasses because I thought they coordinated too well with my hair," says Allure's beauty editor Devon Abelman. "However, these ones convinced me otherwise because they have more golden tones to them."

  • For Any Face Shape: Oversized Yellow Frames

Similar to the tortoiseshell pair, these light-colored frames by Zenni Optical will flatter nearly any and every skin tone and hair color. What's more, if your face is somewhat oval, like Dev's, you can get away with the oversize style without it detracting from any of your features. No matter what your face shape, though, it's important to remember to just have fun with it and choose a pair that makes you feel like your best self.

"My retro aesthetic is fully realized with these glasses; plus, the clear finish lets me get as bold as I want with my makeup without the two aspects of my look competing for attention," says Abelman.
