Free crochet pattern for mickey mouse

When I posted last weeks pattern (Santa Hat) I shared that my husband and I are surprising our kids with a trip to Disney. I wanted to find a fun way to tell them about the trip so I designed these Mickey and Minnie ornaments to give to them.

They easily guessed the surprise. Mark and Ashley were very excited. Aidan, who is in seventh grade, was a little stressed about the thought of missing a week of school work but we came up with a game plan to get his work done while we are away. We are all looking forward to a week of warm sunshine and family time!

• E 3.5 mm crochet hook
• small white pom pom
• polly pellets or poly fil
• hot melt adhesive
• tapestry needle
• stitch markers
• worsted weight yarn in red, black and pink
• super bulky yarn in white

total width= 5 inches

total length= 6 inches

4 rounds and 6 stitches= 1 inch

• you are crocheting in the round
• the ch 2 at the beginning of each round never counts as your first stitch

ch- chain

dc- double crochet

sc- single crochet

dc2tog- double crochet 2 stitches together

rnd- round

rnds- rounds

st- stitches

sts- stitches

sl st- slip stitch

Crochet hook: E 3.5 mm
Yarn: black & red for Mickey or pink for Minnie 

Instructions between two asterisks should be repeated for the remainder of the round.

Begin with black  yarn.

Rnd 1: ch 3, make 9 dc in the 3rd ch from the hook, join in the round with a sl st [9]

Rnd 2: ch 2, *2 dc*, join [18]

Rnd 3: ch 2, *2 dc, dc*, join [27]

Rnd 4: ch 2, *2 dc, dc, dc*, join [36]

Rnd 5: ch 2, *dc*, join [36]

Rnd 6: ch 2, *dc*, join [36]

Switch to red or pink yarn.

Rnd 7: ch 2, *dc*, join [36]

Rnd 8: ch 2, *dc*, join [36]

Rnd 9: ch 2, *dc2tog, dc, dc* [27]

Rnd 10: ch 2, *dc2tog, dc* [18]

Rnd 11: ch 2, *dc2tog* [9]

Fill with polly pellets or poly fil. Tip: if you have a real tree, I would suggest using poly fil so that your ornament isn’t too heavy. 

Use a tapestry needle to sew the opening shut.

Crochet hook: E 3.5 mm
Yarn: black

Instructions between two asterisks should be repeated for the remainder of the round.

Make two.

Rnd 1: ch 3, make 9 dc in the 3rd ch from the hook, join in the round with a sl st [9]

Rnd 2: ch 2, *2 dc*, join [18]

Rnd 3: ch 1, *2 sc, sc*, join [27]

Use a tapestry needle to sew the ears onto the ornament. See picture for placement.

Thread a piece of black yarn from one side of one inner ear to the other side. Tie the yarn, leaving it long enough to hang the ornament on a tree.

Crochet hook: E 3.5 mm
Yarn: white & red for Mickey or pink for Minnie 

Begin with red or pink yarn

Plug in your hot melt adhesive.

Instructions between two asterisks should be repeated for the remainder of the round.

Rnd 1: ch 3, make 4 dc in the 3rd ch from the hook, join in the round with a sl st [4]

Rnd 2: ch 2, *2 dc*, join [8]

Rnd 3: ch 2, *dc*, join [8]

Rnd 4: ch 2, *2 dc, dc*, join [12]

Rnd 5: ch 2, *dc*, join [12]

Rnd 6: ch 2, *2 dc, dc, dc*, join [16]

Switch to white  yarn.

Rnd 7: ch 1, *sc*, join and fasten off.

Push all loose ends into the hat. This will help it stand up. If you feel the need to, you can add some poly fil.

Use your hot melt adhesive to line the bottom of the hat with a layer of glue.

Attach the hat onto the ornament between the ears. Be careful not to glue the string you added between the ears. 

Add a dab of glue onto the top of the hat and add a small white pom pom.
