Sorry, i‘m new to the Souls games but i cant seem to do it? If i press r1 behind a enemy i just attack them normally but online it says r1

Since you are new. I'm assuming you were trying to circle around the enemy holding your shield up and pressing r1 behind them. Let go of ur shield before you do that or it's just gonna be a normal attack. If not, I think you may not be in the right position. You gotta be close enough to kiss em on the back of the head most of the time.

Maybe try pushing forward when you do it, also I have found you need to be directly behind them

It seems like you both have to be standing still for it to work in this game so far. Think of a backstab as a statement. You got outmaneuvered and left yourself incredibly open so now you’re gonna get absolutely bent over.

You just sneak up close to them, like really close and hit r1, dont spam it. You have to be directly behind them and look straight at them not tilted in an angle.

I backstab by standing still reale close behind a enemie and press r1.

I backstabed some bosses while not crouched so I don't realy know how it works but it works xD

Backstabed some bosses is you doing something called "Visceral attack". It happens when you have staggered them. The more damage you do, with different attacks and parry, they stagger so you can deal heavy damage.
