Which is better front firing or down firing subwoofer?

I have a regular cab truck with my sub box in between the seats. Subs up Port up.

Would there be any advantages to building a down firing box with ports up?

Im wanting to do this so no one can see my subs, Less chance of damaging my subs, and I want to build a center console and have cup holders on top with an arm rest.

I have 2 SA-8"s on an AQ1200D. Just was wondering if it would be a waste of time.

I don't want to lose any DBzzzz that I might have with the sub up port up setup I have now.

i doubt you would be able to tell much of a difference, other than the fact that you wouldnt have to worry as much about things hitting your subs... if it were me i would do it just for the peace of mind on that

Im not really that worried about damaging them. Ive had them like this for 6 months and also had my HDC3 10"s like that for 6 months and never had a problem. I don't really want to rebuild a box just for that reason. But if I get some input about if it will cause any negative effects down firing then Ill leave it how it is. If I hear good things then Ill do it and have a win/win situation.

Have you ever thought about Downfiring w/ port Front?? ( Shooting towards your CD Player )

Yes I did port forward before on an L7 12". I like port up best.

definitely do the subs downfiring. If nothing else, they will be out of site and less likely to get damaged,BUT, I beleive that it will sound much better than subs up. I have done many,many systems in my cars and others, and the sub facing the front has never been the best sounding. You may actually hit the lower notes better with the subs down, kinda lik facing home theater subs against a wall,( or the floor) as many of them do now. they sound much better. Good luck with build, and nice set up dude. wish I could be satisfied with 8's.

Thanks bud. Ill start on the new box soon. The SA-8s are nice but arnt the loudest ive had. I miss my 2 HDC3 10"s on my 3500D... But I lost my job and had to sell them. Ill have another louder system soon but these 8"s are doing well for now.

i just built a down fire box for a single 10" for my single cab 2500

and im happy with it. actually I like it better than any other box ive had in the truck.

I feel like maby the down fire box helps coupple the sub to the cab of the truck to get the most out of it I guess.

that and it will be out of sight / much less prone to damage / ext... win win situation all round.

since my box is only single woofer / I made half of this one. - not to this exact spec - but same general shape - idea

INVERTED WEDGE DESIGN

the larger part of the opening faces the rear of the truck.

the front part has about 2.5" opening - rear part has about 4" opening - sub has plenty of room for excursion before hitting the floor like that.
