Does Red Bull taste like apple juice

Ah, Red Bull. The stuff that gives you wings and enables you to stay awake all night and study. You are using it to stay up to study, right?

With large amounts of sugar and caffeine, Red Bull comes in a variety of flavors. However, the original flavor tends to taste sweet and sour with a bit of citrus. It tastes somewhat like medicinal Sweet Tarts. 

Its original flavor has a taste that can be somewhat likened to elderberry with its medicinal qualities. If that doesn’t sound appealing to you, there are over flavors to try. Over the years, Red Bull has released a variety of flavors all of which are different from the original. 

Other Popular Flavors

Original Red Bull doesn’t actually have a flavor attached to it, It’s simply called Energy Drink. Talking about energy drinks, an alternative to Red Bull is popular called the Monster, it tastes like fizzy apple juice.. However, other flavors do have tastes that vary from the original. 

Sugar Free

Like the original flavor, which is called Energy Drink, the sugar free version is called, simply, Sugarfree.

While containing zero sugar, Red Bull uses aspartame as its sweetener, which often tastes much sweeter than actual sugar. That means that the sugar free version is almost sickeningly sweet. It sort of tastes like cloyingly, over-sweetened, liquid bubble gum.

Special Editions

Red Bull likes to put out special editions of flavors in addition to Energy Drink and Sugarfree. These are some of the most well-liked according to Amazon.

Watermelon, Red Edition

This flavor is one of the most liked and most purchased on Amazon. 

Its biggest compliment is that it is not overly sweet, as many Red Bull seem to be. It has more of a refreshing citrus flavor than being heavily sweetened. It also tastes more like a juice than an energy drink. 

Tropical, Yellow Edition

This one was a summer edition quite a while back. It tastes heavily of pineapple along with some orange and mango flavors.

Because it is sweetened with sugar, as opposed to aspartame, it isn’t overly sweet, but pleasantly sweet.

Peach-Nectarine, Peach Edition

While a big seller, the peach-nectarine flavor is fairly heavy and overpowering. Meaning, that if you really like peach, you will probably like this flavor. If you don’t though, it’s likely you won’t be able to finish it.

In addition, it’s also a little lighter and crisp tasting than some of the other flavors.

Blueberry, Blue Edition

While a hot item on Amazon, the New York Post reviewed the blueberry flavor and claimed it tasted like an air freshener. 

The truth is, a lot of people like artificial blueberry flavors, if you are one of them, you might rate this a little better than the Post.

It’s a heavier consistency than the peach and sort of tastes like blueberry fruit punch with some cough syrup thrown in.

Red Bull Organics

Recently, in what seemed like a 180 from the company, Red Bull introduced a line of organic sodas. None of which are marketed as energy drinks.

They released four different flavors, which all contain natural and organic ingredients. They might not taste like the Red Bull you’re used to though.

Simply Cola

This is the only drink in the Organics line that actually contains caffeine.

Simply Cola is less syrupy than your typical Coke, but it’s also somewhat spicier and earthier as well. Thanks to hints of cinnamon, ginger, licorice, and lime, it’s not overly sweet. 

However, if you greatly enjoy carbonation in your soda, you may be disappointed. Simply Cola has much less than your typical soda.

Ginger Ale

Again, this flavor is also lacking in carbonation, but it makes up for it in flavor. 

This is more like a ginger beer in terms of taste than ginger ale. It’s spicy and has a tiny hint of citrus.

Bitter Lemon

This one is a sour soda without much sweetness at all. Although named bitter, it doesn’t have much bitterness to it. It also doesn’t lack the carbonation that both cola and ginger have.

Tonic Water

Tonic water is more bitter than the bitter lemon, but with tonic water, that’s a good thing. It also has a nice lemon flavor and a wonderful hint of sweetness.

Final Thoughts

The original flavor Energy Drink can be a bit of a mystery. Its medicinal Sweet Tart flavor isn’t all that straightforward. However, some of Red Bull’s other flavors are much more descriptive.

So if you’ve tried Red Bull before and thought it wasn’t for you, maybe try another flavor. They’ve come a long way from Energy Drink and Sugarfree.
