Do Rod Wave have a new song?

Rod Wave is for sure a fan favorite these days and it is well deserved. He hasn’t been in the game long but within the five years he’s been active, the St. Petersburg, FL artist has been coasting so effortlessly to the top with every release. With almost all of his albums going platinum so far, Rod Wave is already in his own lane and doing exactly what works for him in the booth. There is no doubt that out of the newer generation of artists today, the 22-year-old is one of the few that stands out from his work ethic alone and that is something that will never go unnoticed. Today (Aug 12) Rod Wave gifts fans with his fourth studio album Beautiful Mind.

About two months ago, Rod Wave delivered some news that quickly alerted fans world wide. As of June 13, he is done with the depressing music: “On my baby’s dis my last sad ass album I’m off dat jus wanna live happy travel get dis money,” he tweeted. Wave is ultimately known for his “Debbie Downer” music that a lot of people aren’t fans of, but it is good to see that he is switching gears this time around and moving forward. Beautiful Mind serves as the follow up to Wave’s 2021 album Soulfly (which is RIAA certified platinum as of July 26, 2022).

Laced with a total of 24 records, Rod Wave keeps his features to a bare minimum by only tapping on Jack Harlow and December Joy. After facing a number of delays in recent times, it is a beautiful thing to see Beautiful Mind see the light of day! Check it out now.

It’s been a little more than a year since Rod Wave blessed the world with his third studio album SoulFly, which contained 19 songs and a single feature from Polo G on the standout cut “Richer.” The project was a huge success for the Floridian star, landing him his first number one on the Billboard 200 thanks to 130,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release — it’s also since crossed the Platinum mark. Months after its initial drop, a deluxe upgrade of SoulFly surfaced with nine additional tracks and collaborations alongside Kodak Black and Lil Durk. Since then, Rod Wave has liberated songs like “Nirvana” (which many initially thought was a suicide note, which the artist denied) and “Cold December,” both of which have raised hopes that a new body of work is on the way.

Over the weekend, Rod Wave officially announced his next album, which will be titled Beautiful Mind. The “Tombstone” rapper delivered the good news via a new freestyle over Future, Drake, and Tems’ I NEVER LIKED YOU single “WAIT FOR U.” During the short clip, Rod Wave let the fans know that he turned Beautiful Mind in to his label, and it will be released on June 3.

In a past interview with Montreality, Rod Wave spoke on why he chooses to pour his heart out with his emotionally charged music:

“I could make club songs. I could make bangers and shit that don’t make no sense. I could make that shit all day … I don’t wanna feed nobody no bullshit. I could tell you about pounds, I could tell you about trappin’, I could tell you about stealin’ and robbin’ and killin’, I could do that. It’s just that I don’t wanna do that. It’s a new trapper-rapper every day.”

Have a look at Rod Wave‘s big announcement via his aforementioned freestyle — titled “Sorry 4 The Wait” — below.

UPDATE (July 27): The new release date for the album is Aug. 12th. He’s also dropped a new single called ‘Stone Rolling’.

Previous story (May 1):

Rod Wave has been cooking new music for a while but fans have constantly complained about him not dropping enough of it.

The singer-rapper has not had an easy ride as there have been hints about him not doing too well mentally. In December, he had uploaded and deleted a song about suicide called ‘Nirvana‘. But tonight, he had a big surprise for us.

The St. Petersburg, Florida artist has dropped a freestyle over Future, Drake & Tems’ just released song ‘Wait For U‘ and right at the end, revealed his new album titled Beautiful Mind. He also mentioned during the song that he turned his album on Monday. Along with the title, it’s been revealed that it will arrive on June 3rd. Take a look at the screenshot in the Instagram slide above.

Since sharing his debut record in 2018, Rod Wave has been consistent in putting one project out every year. Most recently, that came in the form of March 2021’s SoulFly and its subsequent deluxe that arrived in August 2021, capping off an emotionally potent AOTY candidate run.

When contextualizing this prior consistency, it felt strange that Rod had only released one song halfway through 2022, January’s “Cold December.” But as summer began to wind down, these concerns were finally quelled, with Rod Wave making his full-length return on Friday (Aug. 12) in the form of Beautiful Mind, continuing his LP streak.

I been recording dis album fa a year, shit was a real Rollacoaster

— RodWave (@rodwave) August 2, 2022

Beautiful Mind‘s track list consists of 24 songs, two features from Jack Harlow and December Joy, four of its pre-released singles and an interlude performed by viral comedian Druski. The album’s preceding promotional singles, “Stone Rolling” (July 26) and the album’s intro “Alone” (Aug. 9), prepared fans for another melodic whirlwind of emotions. “Stone Rolling” was the third pre-released single after “Cold December” and November 2021’s “By Your Side.”

The song sees Rod passionately croon over a guitar-laced instrumental which has been his fool-proof, go-to formula for years now. The accompanying visuals for “Stone Rolling” follows the Floridian singer as he embarks on summer vacation trips throughout the country. Similarly, “Alone,” which Rod teased on his Instagram last week, is a melancholic tone-setter for the album, as he croons about lost love and provides another music video for the project.

— RodWave (@rodwave) June 13, 2022

The “Stone Rolling” visuals likely serve as a precursor to the life Rod Wave is ready for, as a tweet he put out in June explains that Beautiful Mind will be the last album of his that utilizes his beloved, downtrodden style.

With Beautiful Mind‘s arrival, it’s looking like this project will be the end of a dramatic, therapeutic era provided by one of hip-hop’s most emotionally vulnerable artists.
