One-time Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien pulled out of testifying before the January committee on Monday because his wife went into labor. 

Stepien, who had been scheduled to appear at the House panel's second public hearing into the deadly siege at the US Capitol, withdrew from the appearance attorney Kevin Marino said after he was notified of the family emergency.

"Mr. Stepien was in town and preparing for his testimony here today in response to a subpoena when he got a call that his wife had gone into labor. He notified committee council and he immediately headed to hospital to be with her," Marino told C-Span. 

The committee planned to proceed, per media reports, by showing clips of Stepien's videotaped deposition. 

Stepien was Trump's 2020 campaign manager. He was expected to testify about former President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election results after losing to Joe Biden. The New York Times reports that during a meeting on November 7, 2021 where Trump was pushing his baseless claims of election fraud Stepien laid out the "exceedingly low odds of success with his challenges." 

Stepien is currently serving as a campaign advisor to House hopeful Harriet Hageman, the Trump-endorsed candidate attempting to unseat January 6 select committee co-chair Liz Cheney this August in Wyoming's GOP primary.

Bill Stepien’s attorney confirmed yesterday (Monday, 13 June) that Bill’s wife Macy had gone into labour. 

For that reason, Stepien was unable to testify in person before the committee investigating the 6 January Capitol riot.

Initially, the committee had sent out an email update to reporters saying simply that “due to a family emergency”, he would be unable to testify in person. However, Yahoo and others cite multiple sources when reporting Bill Stepien’s “family emergency” was, in fact, the imminent birth of his child.

In lieu of his in-person testimony, a video testimony was used.

Twitter desperate to know whether the baby has been born

Questions regarding the length of Macy’s childbirth and whether or not her and Bill Stepien’s baby has been born have been flooding Twitter since the announcement yesterday.

Stepien’s detractors have been entertaining the notion that the birth of Stepien’s baby came at a convenient time – giving testimony at so high profile an investigation would have been a daunting experience to say the least.

But attorney Kevin Marino told reporters specifically and unequivocally that Bill Stepien had got the call his wife had gone into labour and “immediately headed to the hospital to be with her”.

Bill Stepien and Macy Cambio became husband and wife in April 2021

Bill and Macy Stepien (formerly Cambio) celebrated their first anniversary on 17 April 2022.

Per Wedding Wire, their marriage was registered at Crate & Barrel wedding registry and Williams Sonoma wedding and gift registry.

Macy is the director of digital and insights at a management consulting company in Washington, Columbia. 

She previously worked for Vox Populi, a polling agency, and the Republican National Committee. 

Per her Twitter bio, she’s a marathon runner and pet owner. She and Bill Stepien have a dog whose name is Ronald; they do not appear to have any other children.
