With how easy Venmo makes it to send money back and forth between folks, it makes sense that this convenience extends to banks as well.

What Is The Venmo Debit Card?

The Venmo debit card is a debit card linked to a specific Venmo account. Once assigned to a Venmo account, the debit card acts like a bank-issued debit card to process payments and usage in stores or online retailers.

Who Issues the Venmo Debit Card?

Venmo’s debit card comes from Bancorp Bank, a large bank established in 1999. In recent years, their focus has been on financial technology and growing that sector of the financial world. According to their Company page, Bancorp has issued over 100 million cards across their various platforms.

In addition to Bancorp, MasterCard also helps back the Venmo debit card. MasterCard acts as the payment processor for the debit card, making it different than Bancorp who just issues the card. Payments you make through the Venmo debit card go through the MasterCard system.

How to Get A Venmo Debit Card

You don’t have to have a Bancorp or MasterCard account to get the Venmo debit card. Actually, all you need to get the debit card is an active Venmo account and no other Venmo debit cards associated with the account.

To order the Venmo debit card, you first need to go into the Settings menu, represented by an icon of three horizontal lines. Inside the settings, there is an option for Debit Card Application.

Once you choose to start the application, you’ll be asked to offer some identifying information. Name, home address, and social security number will have to be given for the application. You also have to include a copy of a government-issued I.D., such as a driver’s license or passport, to complete the application.

After you finish the application, you’ll have to wait for 10 to 15 business days for the application to process and your card to arrive at your home. You won’t have to pay anything to apply for or to receive the card, so sit tight and wait for your new card to arrive.

Using the Venmo Card at an ATM

Using a Venmo debit card at an ATM works much like any other ATM. You’ll need to make sure that the ATM accepts MasterCard debit cards first. Once you’re sure of that, you’re good to go.

Follow the on-screen prompts, including inputting your PIN and other information. Once you finish up with that, you’ll choose how much cash to withdraw from your Venmo account and get your money and receipt.

If the ATM doesn’t warn you, you should be aware that there is a fee to withdraw from a Venmo account at an ATM. Most ATMs will charge a $2.50 fee to access the cash. If you instead want to withdraw at a bank or similar institution, the fee goes up to $3.00.
