For 360 -You need a console with the proper region code (NTSC-J for Japanese games, US is NTSC, Europe is generally PAL, Asian games GENERALLY work on a NTSC-J box). A NTSC game will not work on a PAL console. If I remember right, NZ and Australia are both PAL. -You don't need anything else for retail games, as you just need to put the game in the console. -For digital games, you need to buy a currency card from the region and use the currency to get the game, AND you need an account created for that region. So if I wanted to buy a Japanese game I'd need an account with a Japanese address and everything. Your NZ gamertag will not work. There are exceptions though. I think you need a VPN for Games of Demand and some digital games require a credit card from the region. Been awhile since I've had to mess with any of that. For One -Xbox One is region free, so you don't need to worry about region codes. A US one will play Japanese or European games with no extra effort. China is an exception though, you can't play those with anything but a Chinese One. -For retail games, you just order the game from a region that sells it (like the US) and put the disc in, nothing else is required. -For digital, you'll need to swap the region of your console (done in settings) and then get a currency card, as your balance for each region is separate. As far as I know there's no need to use a VPN or anything like that on the One. If the game is free, then you don't need to do anything but switch the region of your console (like the HK version of Neverwinter). Even when you switch back to New Zealand you can still play the games. -To get DLC or buy in-game purchases you'll need to switch back your region though. So for example if I wanted Zen in Neverwinter HK, I'd have to switch back to the Hong Kong region and buy Zen with whatever their currency Hong Kong uses (HK Dollars I think?). Hello, I am sorry if this has been posted before. But I couldn't find a thread with information on it. If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated. Show
Anywho, I was wondering how people purchase games from a different region on their XBOX One?.
I live in Canada, I want to purchase a game on the UK store. Can't seem to get it to work though.
Thanks for all you help. Link to commentShare on other sitesMore sharing options... dakisbacPosted March 22, 2017 dakisbac
Posted March 22, 2017 1) Buy a gift card for the region you want to buy from. 2) Redeem card on your account (can do this on xbox.com/account.microsoft.com or on the console) 3) Change your region On the web: click the language/region link on the footer (left side) of the page, and select your region from the list on the next page. On the console: go into settings, console settings, change region, then reboot your console. The marketplace should now belong to that region. 4) Buy game with account credit 5) If it's your first time buying from this new region, it will also ask for your address. I usually enter either an address of my country's embassy/consulate, or a hotel or hospital. Link to commentShare on other sitesMore sharing options... Probably as theres games only on the US store etc, it can also work out cheaper sometimes too if you do it via gift cards. Link to commentShare on other sitesMore sharing options... Aj6627Posted March 23, 2017 Aj6627

Pro tip: scientology is everywhere, just google for an address for them in whatever country you're buying from. That's the one thing they're useful for! Link to commentShare on other sitesMore sharing options... UberPirateNinjaPosted March 23, 2017 UberPirateNinja
Posted March 23, 2017 Can anyone recommend a trustworthy site for buying currency codes from? I'm in the UK, not sure if that makes a difference. Link to commentShare on other sitesMore sharing options... jroller1979Posted April 4, 2017 jroller1979

Posted April 23, 2017 I bought Dark Souls 3 off the Japanese M$ store with gift cards for the credit and my (never used since) paypal account. Bit of a pain going through the rigmarole of following the steps to get the game early, but not something I'd ever rule out doing again in the future if necessary to get my hands on a game early. Posted August 26, 2019 Dredging up an old topic, but I'm wondering if this is still accurate. Figured someone might still be subscribed to this. I was reading somewhere that you can just change region on the website, buy there with gift card code, and not have to change the console at all. Wondering if anyone can confirm this works and you get the other region's unlock time properly so long as it's bought in that currency.
I'm still waiting for Solaris to fork over my Yen code and wondering why Play-Asia was out of the bloody things. Really is stupid MS makes you jump through hoops like this. What if I wanted to just buy a gift card for a friend in another country? It's bloody impossible to buy NZ gift cards and some other countries. That's why I'm going for Yen.
Would've expected a sticky somewhere about this somewhere, but it doesn't seem like that many people care about playing games ~16 hours early on releases like Gears 5. Link to commentShare on other sitesMore sharing options... AmishNinjaPosted August 28, 2019 AmishNinja
Posted August 28, 2019 (edited) Well, don't try to do this with 18+ games on the Japan store. I just got screwed out of $100 worth of yen cause it won't let me buy Gears 5 without a credit card and won't take a US card. Can't find a reputable place to buy currency codes for AU or NZ either. This is ridiculous. Edited August 28, 2019 by Dirty130Language Link to commentShare on other sitesMore sharing options... Dirty130Posted August 28, 2019 Dirty130

Posted September 15, 2019 I have a question about the Xbox One and different regions I hope someone can answer. I can't find the answer anywhere online.
Does the DLC for an Xbox One game have to be the same region as the game itself in order to work? In other words, if I buy a US physical copy of an Xbox One game to play on my UK Xbox One, would I be able to buy DLC for the game from the UK online store and use it with the US game?
(I discovered to my cost that PS4 games and DLC have to be from the same region for the DLC to work. I had a UK PS4 game on disc, and bought the DLC from the US online store because it was no longer available from the UK online store. The game did not recognise the DLC. I'd like to know if this also applies to Xbox One games.) Link to commentShare on other sitesMore sharing options... Y2Kasper10Posted September 15, 2019 Y2Kasper10

I can't guarantee it, maybe someone else can...
But it stands to reason that the DLC must be the same version as the full game you own. I would assume the files and everything aren't compatible. Are Xbox digital games region locked?Hey there, physical copies are region free, but digital purchases are a little bit different as you will still be able to play purchased games, but not re-download them from different regions. Was this reply helpful?
Are original Xbox games region locked?Microsoft. The Xbox and the Xbox 360 are region-locked, but some games are region-free and will play in any region. Digital content through Xbox Live on the Xbox 360 and original Xbox are also region-locked, such as DLC, movies, and apps.
