r/instax Show Posted byu/[deleted]1 year ago So I got a mini 9, and I was stupid and took the instant film out of the cartridge, before reloading it back into the cartridge and reinstalling the cartridge. It was dark out side, but there were a fair bit of lights. did I damage my film? ninja edit: I wasn't in direct light level 1 Yes, it's probably damaged, but if you're lucky only the front one should be and the remaining pieces of film sandwiched behind it are OK or mostly OK. level 1 Probably yes, it's super sensitive. You might still get an image, but expect heavy fogging of whatever the average color of the lights were. On the other hand, it's just the first picture, the rest are most likely fine. level 1 Probably. The shutter is only open for a fraction of a second normally and ANY stray light will fog the film. This is why when trying to determine if a room is dark enough to use as a makeshift darkroom they tell you to sit in the dark for 15 minutes or so and if you see any light at all after that (like through cracks in a door) the room is not dark enough. But hey, what's done is done. might as well see what happens when you shoot it now. level 1 Your first image will be damaged and the other ones may have light leaks too. But just try and see, there's nothing to lose now haha level 1 Try it out and let us know!

Did this article help you? What happens if Polaroid film is exposed to light?Instant film is light sensitive, so should only be exposed to light when a picture is taken, not before. If this has happened, you may find that if you keep shooting with that pack of film the first few shots will come out blank but some of the remaining film should come out as normal.
Does a Polaroid need to be in dark?Remember – instant cameras love light. If you are shooting indoors, most of the time ambient light alone will not be sufficient, and you need to use flash. NOTE: SX-70 cameras do not include a built-in flash, so you'll want to make sure you have a flash bar (purchased separately) for any photos shot indoors.
What ruins a Polaroid picture?Too much sun here … or too much moisture there can ruin a print. And while you may feel your Polaroids and other photographs are safe and sound in their albums, the truth is they're fading, too. Just more slowly and with grace. But as the Cranberries once sang, “Don't let it burn.
