Best cat litter for odor control Reddit

I've had up to 4 of my own cats + fosters at times. Whatever you use, you've got to scoop it or change it frequently.

-Current favorites:

-Tidy Cat Breeze system. This is the one with pellets and a tray underneath that you line with a diaper-like pad. In all my years of cat owning, this is the least-smelly and cleanest litter box I've ever owned. I've heard that some cats aren't fans of the pelleted litter and are slow to start using it, but none of mine had a problem. Zero dust from this system, minimal tracking (and then it's just a little pellet which is easy to sweep up). With 3 cats, I change the pad weekly and scoop solids several times a week.

-EcoPine Natural Cat litter. This is a pine-based sawdust type litter mixed with carbon and silica gel pellets. Fantastic stuff. Bonus: it's super lightweight and fluffy, so it's a good choice for those of us who hate hauling 50 lbs of litter up 3 flights of stairs and/or the picky kitties who don't like sharp litter pieces. Very little dust. No clumping but the silica gel pieces do a good job of absorbing the moisture. Currently I have 3 cats and only have to change the whole box once a month with frequent in-between scooping.

Also enjoyed:

-Tidy Cat small spaces. Pretty low-dust, odor absorbing litter. Good clumping power. Heavy and expensive and tracks everywhere, though.

-TidyCat lightweight. Almost the same as the small spaces stuff but, y'know, lightweight. And more expensive.

Meh stuff:

-PetCo bulk-brand clumping. It's cheap. Clumps were pretty good and odor control was ok. Very dusty, lots of tracking.

-Any of the regular clay non-clumpings. I suppose if you only had one, neat, short haired cat it would be ok. For multi-cat households, picky litter cats, or long hairs, not so great.

Hello, I recently got two kittens a week ago and have been using the Scoop Away litter I got at Costco. It states that it is 99.9% dust free but it is extremely dusty so I am thinking of trying something else.

I have tried searching reddit for recommendations but a lot of them are 5+ years old and all of the upvoted recommendations (dr. elsley, tidy, etc.) have really bad reviews on other online stores as it looks like these brands have been cutting corners in the past few years.

There has been many mixed reviews on all of these best selling litters so I am assuming no perfect litter exists (sadly). I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations that is updated to the current times.

I am looking for the necessary minimum features such as clumping, odor free, with little tracking as possible, etc. Does this even exist anymore? Please feel free to share your experiences!

Thank you!

I quadruple the litter robot. This thing quite literally changed my cat caring life. I have 5 cats now, only 3 when I originally bought it, so I have to change the drawer daily, but I still don’t smell the cats. It’s also not the same as the raking boxes because it rotates and even soft stool it catches in the drawer. Yeah, it’s expensive, I bought mine on a payment plan so it was a bit easier.

Two other things I’d recommend are using some deodorizer in your litter.

Also, I know you said you tried food already, however I had a cat with this exact same problem and after two months on the Purina EN Naturals her poop firmed up and smelled so much better, a year later it’s no longer an issue. It still stinks slight worse than the others, but is tolerable. If you already tried that food, and for that amount of time totally understand, but it was a game changer for us, and did take quite a bit of time on it to help.

Anyone who owns a cat will understand the agony of the unpleasant smell from their defecation. There are many ways to solve this problem, but not all work. One of the most popular ways is to use some deodorant litter. How to Choose the Best Cat Litter for Odor Control

While determining which cat litter to buy, you will need to consider your pet's unique needs. If you have frequent odor issues, you might want to choose an all-natural clay litter. Clay litter is a great choice for frequent odor problems, as it is free of chemicals. It also clumps when it comes into contact with moisture and seals odors quickly. If you're dealing with frequent odors, a more powerful option is Ever Clean Extra Strength. It can seal in odors up to 14 days without losing its effectiveness.

Clay litter

Clay cat litter is a great option if you have more than one cat or a hard-to-clean house. It forms small clumps and is dust-free, making it easy to scoop. Plus, it has a neutral fragrance that your cat won't mind. This is a great option for those who want to prevent the unpleasant odors that cats leave behind. You can use clay cat litter in your home to deodorize other areas, including the kitty litter box.

For those who don't want to spend a fortune on clay cat litter, consider purchasing Arm & Hammer Unscented Total Odor Control. This litter is easy to clean and provides non-stop odor control for up to 7 days. It's also 99.9% dust-free, which reduces tracking and is also easy on the budget. It is safe for even the healthiest housecat. It also contains no fragrances or dyes.

Clump & Seal

Arm & Hammer's Clump & Seal (tm) Multi-Cat clumping cat litter is a breakthrough formula for odor control. This heavy-duty odor-controlling formula also includes Baking Soda to eliminate stubborn odors. And it's 100% dust-free.

This odor-controlling cat litter is made from a biodegradable, fragrance-free, and odor-neutralizing formula. The clumping process keeps odors at bay, and the cat litter jug is recyclable and scent-free. It also prevents your cat from tracking litter around the house. Using this product will make daily cleanups much easier and less time-consuming.

Dr. Elsey's

This odor-controlling cat litter is perfect for families with multiple cats, those who sift the litter box or use a mechanical litter box, and it controls odor without using any perfume deodorants.

Using Dr. Elsey's cat litter is an easy way to ensure your pet's health and comfort. This litter has a natural scent and contains no additives, which can cause a cat to vomit and urinate. It also features a special formula that prevents the stink from spreading and alleviates stress for both you and your cat. Its unique formula is also great for multi-cat households because it is made for multiple-cat households. Unlike other cat litter, Dr. Elsey's cat litter is designed for multiple-cat households.

Ever Clean

Are you looking for an odor-controlling cat litter? If so, you've come to the right place. There's an extra-strong clumping formula and an unscented option. Ever Clean Unscented Cat Litter is an excellent option for owners and cats who are sensitive to scent. Your cats and home will remain odour-free and fresh with this odor-absorbing cat litter.

Originally, the Ever Clean cat litter brand was first introduced as a seven-pound jug. The company soon developed clumping litter and marketed it at pet specialty stores and veterinary offices. Ever Clean cat litter was awarded "Best Product of the Year" by Pet Products News in 1989. It was re-launched in 2000 with improved formulas that provided even better odor control. They also introduced Cedar and Multiple Cat formulas for increased clumping and odor control.

Fuller's earth

Clay cat litter is composed of absorbent clay minerals. These minerals have a wide variety of uses, from filtering liquids to decolorizing spills. For decades, people have turned to clay cat litter for odor control. It is heavy, produces dust, and has excellent odor control properties. Listed below are some of the benefits of clay litter for cats. If you're considering switching to clay, consider these advantages:

Clay is also very absorbent and can reduce the smell of cat urine. The clay mineral Bentonite can help trap odors in a cat litter. The clay clumps when wet, which makes it easy to remove soiled litter. Some clay litters contain silica particles to increase their absorbency. But whether clay litter is right for your cat's odor control needs depends on your individual preference.

Walnut shell

If you're looking for a natural alternative to clay cat litter, walnut shell cat litter may be the answer. This grainy, lightweight material works similarly to clumping clay litter, but it's more absorbent and has a slightly different texture. The grainy texture of walnut shells also reduces odor, which makes it an ideal option for odor control. Additionally, if your cat is used to using clay litter, switching to walnut shells will be easier.

Another great option for odor control is 100% natural walnut shell cat litter. This odor-controlling cat litter is biodegradable, is made with only organic materials, and is non-toxic. This type of litter forms hard clumps in as little as 15 minutes, reducing dust and tracking. Compared to clay litter, walnut shell cat litter also lasts three times longer. And unlike clay litter, it won't cause respiratory irritation, so your cat will enjoy using it in their litter box.
