Abstract

The Australian victims survey included 8,414 households and 18,694 persons, while the LEAA survey was based on interviews conducted in 60,000 households with 135,000 persons. The Australian study gathered data during February to May 1975 on all victimizations during the 12 months prior to the interview date for seven serious crime categories; break and enter; motor vehicle theft; theft; fraud, forgery, and false pretences; rape and attempted rape; robbery; and assault. The Australian survey produced an estimated crime rate which ranged from 2 to 16 times as high as the rate based on police records for specific crimes, although the police-reported rates are based on the entire population while the survey focused only on persons aged 15 or older. The U.S. survey used a superior methodology in that it was based on two 6-month recall periods rather than the single 12-month period used in the Australian survey. Comparison of the two Nations' crime rates showed suprisingly that Australia had a significantly higher motor vehicle theft rate than the United States. On all other property crime categories, the American rate was at least twice as high as the Australian rate. Violent crimes of rape and assault had nearly identical rates for the two countries. Victims in the two countries appeared equally likely to report the crimes to the police, except in cases of rape, where the reporting rate in the United States was double that of Australia. Overall, total crime is much greater in the United States than in Australia, but the rates for rape and assault in the two countries are approximately equal. Efforts to produce greater comparability of data are needed. Notes, tables, and 20 references are included.

Australia crime rate compared to the world

Reasons Why Australia Is Better Than USA

Crime rate

Australia is better because the crime rate is much lower that the United States. The crime rate is so low that police officers do not even carry guns with them. They only carry batons. A killing with a gun would be on television for days. That is how safe Australia is.

Quality of Life

Australia has a much better quality of life. Sydney is considered the most beautiful and one of the most livable cities in the world. 4 of the States capital cities: Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide are all in the top 10 most livable cities in the world. Whilst no cities of America are on that list.

Public Infrastructure

Public infrastructure is as good as or better than Europe and USA. Even with a relatively small population, government invests in expansion and maintenance of public infrastructure, public monuments and various other public buildings. Sydney Opera House being the world’s most sophisticated contemporary infrastructure.

Government Action

Australia cares about Australia first. The Government (overall) might make decisions that will piss off other countries, but hey, their job number 1 is to look out for Australia. In the U.S., government first cares about other countries issues then leave the real issues unresolved at home making Americans pissed off and paranoid. Whilst there might be a little corruption in Australia, the Government seems more transparent and more accountable. If a budget is not approved – they have to re-elect a new government.

Income

Australians get paid more; the average hourly income in Australia is $17, where as in America it can be as low as $5.15 (Georgia).

This happens because of the low population, Human resource is treated right.

Ignorance

Australia is known for its all over development, including all the cities. Where as in USA, the extravagance of Las Vegas over-shadows the poverty in the deserts of Nevada and Arizona.  Las Vegas, New York, Washington D.C, Los Angeles, Some of the biggest cities in the US, (not half as good as cities such as Sydney and Melbourne) situated in the same county as the poorest of poor in the desert, showing high regional disparity.

Natural Beauty

Australia has a lot of untouched natural magnificence perfect for a human escape from daily monotonous routine. With beautiful exquisiteness such as the Great Barrier Reef, the pink lake, shark bay, Blue Mountains, Pinnacles Dessert, and what not. Whereas everything that one sees in the United States is a concrete jungle.

Better education system

Australia produces better results in all categories and subjects for students in schools. It is because of the higher standard of teacher training and subject material. Sydney is said to have one of the best passing percentage and results around the globe.
