Apple carplay cant hear phone calls

Question:

Question: Can’t hear caller CarPlay

When I receive a call through CarPlay I can see the caller ID and I answer the call. I cannot hear the caller but they can hear me.

I end the call and then immediately return the call. Now I can hear the other party and they can hear me.

Car is a jaguar e pace. Phone is 8+ with iOS 12.2.

Only happens on incoming calls. Doesn’t happen every time - have experienced problem 5 times in the last month . I’m using the latest available software from jaguar.

Have tried replacing the lightning cable and restarting the iPhone and forgetting the car and reconnecting.

None of these actions have fixed the problem.

This is a safety concern as my job is to provide emergency respond to failures of critical medical equipment in hospitals. If the caller does not reveal their caller ID then I don’t know which hospital their are calling from or who to call back.

Bluetooth connection works fine.

I took the XE into Jaguar and they said it was a known issue but that their current firmware update doesn’t resolve it. They’re expecting a revised version later in July, which they hope will resolve it.

Strange that it seems to impact other car makes as well. Leaves me wondering where the root of the issue really lies?..

Why can't I hear while on a phone call?

Make sure there's nothing covering the speaker at the top of the front of your device. A poorly placed screen protector is one of the most common causes of low volume during calls. Ensure that the volume on your device has been set to the highest level during a voice call.
