For plumbed refrigerators that are connected to a water line, the water filter is an important part of the system. Water filters ensure that your water supply is kept clean, whether for drinking water or for ice. It is important that you check your water filter every 6 months and watch out for signs of decline in water quality. If you see any unusual sediment or material in your water supply or the water has an unusual taste or smell, these are all signs your filter needs changing.
Samsung refrigerators also come with a filter warning system that will alert you when the filter needs changing. When a replacement filter is needed, your filter indicator will turn red and an alarm will sound.

Depending what type of refrigerator you have, the type of water filter your fridge uses will vary as will the location where it is fitted. To find out where to locate your water filter, consult your user manual. Once you have located your filter, you can check the water filter model by checking the model number displayed on the filter. There are four common styles:

Checking your water filter
On Smart fridge freezers, you can manually check your filter status by performing the following steps:
1 From the home screen, swipe left.
2 Tap Fridge Manager.
3 Tap Fridge Settings.
4 The water filter status is displayed under Water Filter.
Changing your water filter
To find out how to change your water filter, follow the steps below or consult your user manual for specific steps for your refrigerator.
1 Shut off the main water supply.
2 Connect the water supply line to the inlet side of the filter.
3 Connect the dispenser line to the outlet side of the filter.
4 Check if there are any leaks.
5 Put the water filter into place and fix it with the clips.
6 Press and hold Filter Reset on the display for 3 seconds to reset the filter lifecycle.
7 When replacing is complete, flush 10 litres of water (or dispense the water for 6 - 7 minutes) to remove air from the water line.
Please note: A newly installed filter may cause the water dispenser to spray water briefly. This is because air has entered the water line. Dispense water until water flow is normal.

Your refrigerator will alert you when the water filter needs changing. The Filter indicator will begin at blue when the filter is reset, then it will change to purple after 6 months and finally it will turn to red after 6 months at which point it needs replacing.
To reset the water filter alert system, press and hold the Ice Type / Filter Change button for 3 seconds. If you decide you do not want to use the water filter, press and hold the Ice Type button for more than 5 seconds, the Filter Indicator and the Filter Change display will be switched off.
Changing your water filter
To find out how to change your water filter, follow the steps below or consult your user manual for specific steps for your refrigerator.
Type 1
The Filter light turns red to let you know when it is time to change your water filter cartridge. To give you time to get a new filter the red light comes on just before the capacity of the current filter runs out. Follow these steps to change the water filter.
1 Shut off the water supply. Then turn the water filter ( 1 ) about 1/4 anti-clockwise.
2 Pull the water filter ( 1 ) from the case filter ( 2 ).
When you pull the water filter a little water can leak from the opening. This is normal. To minimize the water leaks keep
the filter cartridge horizontal when you pull it. To prevent overflow empty the water tray filter (3) and dry around of case filter (2).
To change the water filter more easily shut off the water supply valve.
Please note: Sometimes it is hard to disassemble the water filter because impurities in the water cause it to stick. If you are having difficulty, grip the water filter firmly and pull it hard.
3 Insert the new filter into the filter case ( 4 ).
4 Push the filter and then turn it clockwise until it locks.
Shut off the water supply valve if the water pressure is too great. The locked symbol should be lined up with the indicator line.
5 Press and hold the filter reset button for about 3 seconds to reset the water filter. The colour of the indicator will change from red to blue, green or yellow.
6 Make sure you've turned the water supply back on (if you previously turned it off).
7 When replacing is complete, flush 10 litres of water (or dispense the water for 6 - 7 minutes) to remove air from the water line.
To purchase a replacement water filter you can check online or contact the Samsung Parts distributor. Be sure the replacement water filter has the Samsung logo on the box and on the water filter.
1 Shut off the water supply. Then open the filter cartridge cover.
2 Unlock the filter cartridge by turning the knob clockwise 90 degrees.
3 Pull firmly to remove the filter.
4 Insert a new Samsung approved filter.
5 Turn the cartridge knob clockwise to lock into place.
6 Close the filter cartridge cover.
7 On the control panel, go to More Options, and then run Filter Reset.
8 When replacing is complete, flush 10 litres of water (or dispense the water for 6 - 7 minutes) to remove air from the water line.
Once the filter has been changed, we advise that you dispense several litres of water to purge any air from the system.
