The cast did not have a panel at San Diego Comic-Con to promote the seventh season, though Eliza Taylor, Bob Morley, and Richard Harmon did attend.

- This season featured several characters' most appearances in a season.
- Raven Reyes (13), Echo (13), Eric Jackson (12), Emori (12), Gabriel Santiago (12), Sheidheda (12), Jordan Green (11), Niylah (9) and Penn (6).
- This season contains the longest episode of the entire series, The Last War.
Production Notes:
- Jason Rothenberg and the writing team started
writing on June 3, 2019[8] and finished on December 18, 2019.[9]
- Erica Meredith joined the crew as a writer/producer.[10]
- Sean Crouch joined the crew as writer/co-executive producer.[11]
- Kim Shumway is an executive producer/writer.[12] Miranda Kwok and Jeff Vlaming are writing/producing as well.
- Blythe Ann Johnson joined the team as staff writer, after being a writers' assistant for years.
- On July 2, 2019, Kim confirmed that they already finished writing 2 episodes and were starting to write episode 3.[13]
- Charmaine DeGraté did not write for this season.[14]
- Eliza Taylor and Bob Morley were set to direct episodes this season.[15]
- Eliza later said that she wasn't able to direct her episode this season, due to suffering a
miscarriage.[16] So Lindsey Morgan stepped up and directed the episode in Eliza's place.[17]

- This season is the third to have 16 episodes. The first two were
Season Two and Season Three.
- The season finale is the 100th and final episode of the series.
- Filming began on August 26, 2019[19] and wrapped up on March 14,
2020.[20][21]
- Episode 7 started filming on October 28, 2019.[22]
- Episode 15 wrapped up on February 20, 2020.[23][24]
- The final episode started filming on March 4, 2020.[25]
- As confirmed by Rothenberg, Season Seven is the final
season.[26][27][28]
- Season Five was going to be the final, but never happened because there was another idea.[29]
- Rothenberg states that the reason why he decided to end the show on Season 7 was it's time to get out while the getting's good and doesn't want to overstay their welcome, so they were asking The CW President to let the season to be the final.[30]
- The episode "Anaconda" served as a backdoor pilot for a potential spin-off series set in the aftermath of the Nuclear Apocalypse, 97 years before the Pilot.[31][32]
- With Shelby Flannery,
Chuku Modu and JR Bourne are being promoted to series regular this season, this is the only season to have three main cast promotions.
- JR Bourne was only announced to being promoted to series regular when Jason Rothenberg released new Title Sequence for S7 on twitter.
Plot and Character Notes:
- This season pick up right after Season Six.
- One of themes of Season
7 is "time".[33]
- Rothenberg reveals that there will not be time travel in our timeline; only the Anomaly, where the laws of physics may be broken.[34][35]
- Rothenberg states that the final season is "our version of a happy ending".[36]
- On September 25, 2019, it was announced that Chuku Modu was promoted to series regular.[37]
- Richard described the season by one word, “unexpected” [38]
- There will be familiar faces from the past seasons returning this season, Jason said it could be flashbacks, hallucinations or dreams but not bringing them back from the dead.[39]
- JR Bourne appeared as Russell Lightbourne only in the season premiere "From the Ashes" where he was killed by
Sheidheda who then took over his body, making it in fact Sheidheda who will be a main character and not Russell.
- Jason Rothenberg confirmed that Russell would stay dead and would not return to battle Sheidheda for control of his body like what happened with Clarke and Josephine.[40]
- Season 7 is the second season where none of the main cast appears in every episode, the first was Season Three.
- This season is the one of three seasons that has an episode with no deaths. The other seasons to contain episodes with no deaths are Season One, and Season Four.
- Etherea is the only episode of season seven to have no deaths.
