Where is GTA V Save Game Location?
Your saved games folder is located in a different location according to the version of Windows you are using.
GTA 5 save games can be found here:
- C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\Documents\My Games
- C:\ProgramData\Socialclub\<YourName>\<YourNumber>
- C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\Profiles
Note: Open the task manager by clicking ALT+TAB while it is running. You can access Details by right-clicking the exe. You can also select “show folder location”.
Note: The hidden folders in Windows sometimes need to be shown. In order to do that;
- From the taskbar, you can access File Explorer.
- Choose view. Click on Options. Adjust folder and search preferences.
- Click on the View tab. Select the Show hidden files option in Advanced settings. Click the OK button.
Mods Folder
Steam
The GTA 5 mods folder should reside in the following directory if you have downloaded GTA V via Steam:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto V
A mods folder needs to be made if you haven’t done so already. Grand Theft Auto doesn’t automatically create the folder.
Rockstar Games
You should have your mods folder here when you install GTA on Rockstar Games’ Steam platform:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V

If the above path is not present, you’ll need to find the location of your Grand Theft Auto installation. Make a folder called mods here.
Scripts Folder
Steam
In the Steam installation of Grand Theft Auto, the scripts folder should be created or already exists at the following path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto V
A scripts folder must be created in this folder if you have not already done so.
Rockstar Games
You should have your scripts directory here if you don’t have a Steam Rockstar Games installation:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V

One is locally on your computer (so that you can play offline), and another in the cloud (such as Steam cloud, so that they are permanently backed up and synced between systems). There are a few reasons you might want to know the location of your save files.
Firstly, back-ups are important. In the event that your save becomes corrupt (whether due to a bug, modding issue etc), you likely won’t be able to play that save again, meaning all that progress is lost. GTA V has two different save locations. There are save files which are stored on your computer, and some which are stored in the cloud. It’s also important to note that only your single player saves are stored locally. Online mode saves are stored in the cloud, and can not be edited or viewed.
The default location for GTA V save files on PC is:
C:\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\Profiles\<PROFILE ID>\
There’s a chance that the drive could be different (C:\) depending on where you have installed GTA. The easiest way to get to the Documents folder would be by opening it via the ‘Quick Access’ menu on the left hand side. Just head to the ‘My Documents’ folder, or more specifically: C:\Users\<USER>\Documents
Some of the files in this folder consist of configuration files, save game data and cloud data. These are the files you will need to open in a Save Editor.
