We will be flying in from Seattle the beginning of August into theOrlando airport. After reading St. Augustine posts I know we will need to be there two nights. I have always want to visit SA. Do you recommend any other area as a must visit back from SA to the Orlando area? I read the drive from OR aiport to SA is about 11/2 hours. Thank you.

You go by Daytoa Beach. If driving onDaytona Beach appeals to you, here's your chance.

I am not sure about any need to speed. I thought it would be a pretty drive back south to see the Atlantic.

Blue Spring State Park is my favorite place for seeing manatees. Winter is when you see them; other seasons you may not see any of them. Weekends are crowded. To get in, go early, and during the week if possible.

One would have to speed for sure to get to St. Augustine from theOrlando Airport in 1-1/2 hours, more like 2 hours or over. One never knows what may happen on I-4 to get delayed. So take the 417 from airport around most of I-4 in Orlando (to near Sanford) and continue then on I-4 to 95 North the rest of the way.

Hi teacher34, There has been several good suggestions. If you are not in a hurry. When you get intoDaytona exit I-95 at International Speedway Dr east
follow that to A-1-A. This route will take you by the Daytona International Speedway and the heart of Daytona to the beach. A-1-A north will take along the coastline. It is a nice scienic ride to St. Augustine.

If big hotels on the ocean is not your scene, avoidDaytona Beach and take highway 100 to Flagler Beach. Then proceed north to St. Augustine. The stretch from Flagler Beach to Ft. Matanzas is one of the most scenic.

Wow Teacher34, you got some great suggestions. I actually grew up inbetween the two places so I'll give you a few that you already have here and a couple more. I don't know how much time you'll have so you can decide...
1. As LN said, the drive from MCO to St Augustine is approx 2 hours via interstate.
2. Scenic drive into St Augustine... I agree with thejagman & capnconrad, go throughDaytona, even if it's just to say that you saw it. :) Then up A1A through Flagler, there's a great little place that we like to stop for a drink or a sandwich called the Golden Lion, you can sit up top and just gaze at the ocean for a nice break. Then on to St Augustine.
3. On your way back to Orlando...
* Agree with capnconrad & spirit, Blue Springs is great but busy on weekends.
* Also just off of I-4 on your way to Orlando... For lunch or dinner with a spectacular sunset you can try the Swamp House River Front Grill, 488 West Highbanks Road, Debary, FL

* Also, depending on your time limit, you can continue South on I-95 and visit Kennedy Space Center for the day and then head back to Orlando on The Beach Line that will take you straight to the airport.
Well, those are my favorite places.
Have a wonderful visit to St Augustine.
:)
