The monkees walking down the street

  • Here we come
    Walkin' down the street
We get the funniest looks from
    Everyone we meet

    Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around
    But we're too busy singing
    To put anybody down

We go wherever we want to
Do what we like to do
We don't have time to get restless
    There's always something new

    Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around
    But we're too busy singing
    To put anybody down

We're just tryin' to be friendly
Come and watch us sing and play
    We're the young generation
And we've got something to say, oh

    Any time
    Or anywhere
    Just look over your shoulder
    Guess who'll be standing there?

    Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around
    But we're too busy singing
    To put anybody down

    Whaaa, one time!

    Hey, hey, we're the Monkees
And people say we monkey around
    But we're too busy singing
    To put anybody down

We're just tryin' to be friendly
Come and watch us sing and play
    We're the young generation
And we've got something to say

    The Monkees

The Monkees are an American pop band that released music under their original incarnation between 1966 and 1970, with subsequent reunion albums and tours in the decades that followed. Assembled in Los Angeles in 1965 by Robert "Bob" Rafelson and Bert Schneider for the American television series The Monkees, which aired from 1966–1968, the musical acting quartet was composed of Americans Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork, and Englishman Davy Jones. The band's music was initially supervised by producer Don Kirshner. more »

Who sings the Monkees theme song?

Today's Morning Edition music is from 50 years ago today, when Micky Dolenz recorded the lead vocal for the theme song to the television show "The Monkees," which would hit the airwaves a few months later. The song was one of three written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart for the show's pilot episode.

Who sang most of the Monkees songs?

Keep in mind that Micky Dolenz does most of the lead vocals on the band's biggest songs, but if you've got an ear for Davy or Mike's accents or a memory for the few songs Peter took the lead on, this quiz was made for a Monkees fan like you.

How many of the Monkees are still alive?

Now, 56 years after The Monkees premiered, sadly Dolenz is the only living member, following the death of Michael Nesmith in December 2021.

Who wrote I'm A Believer song?

52 years ago today, The Monkees entered the studio and began the process of recording the song that would become their second #1 hit. Written by Neil Diamond, “I'm a Believer” wasn't actually written for The Monkees.
