VisitMicrosoft has responded to a list of concerns regarding its ongoing $68bn attempt to buy Activision Blizzard, as raised by the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), and come up with an interesting statistic.
In response to continued questions over whether Microsoft owning Call of Duty would unfairly hobble PlayStation, Microsoft claimed that every COD player on PlayStation could move over to Xbox, and Sony's playerbase would still remain "significantly larger" than its own.
Microsoft does not go into detail on its mental arithmetic here, but does note elswhere in its comments that PlayStation currently has a console install base of 150 million, compared to Xbox's install base of 63.7 million.
Watch on YouTube
Eurogamer Newscast: Are CD Projekt's Cyberpunk and Witcher plans too ambitious? That claim is part of a range of comments given to Eurogamer sister site GamesIndustry.biz in response to the CMA's latest report, which otherwise mostly repeats many of the same concerns raised by the UK regulator - and others around the world - already.
For those following the case, the CMA's latest intervention will not come as a surprise - it is the next step on the regulator's recent roadmap for how and when it will weigh in with its final ruling. This month, we were due the CMA's October "issues statement" - and it seems that this is the document to which Microsoft has now publicly responded.
The usual topics are covered - surrounding the potential for the deal to harm competitors should Microsoft gain too much of an advantage owning Activision Blizzard franchises (mainly, Call of Duty) and therefore being able to leverage their brand power to become a dominant market leader in the console market and cloud streaming.
Specifically, the CMA sees potential for the deal to harm Sony but also other streaming services such as Google (perhaps a moot point now), Amazon and Nvidia.
"Having full control over this powerful catalogue, especially in light of Microsoft's already strong position in gaming consoles, operating systems, and cloud infrastructure, could result in Microsoft harming consumers by impairing Sony's – Microsoft's closest gaming rival – ability to compete," the CMA wrote, "as well as that of other existing rivals and potential new entrants who could otherwise bring healthy competition through innovative multi-game subscriptions and cloud gaming services."
In response, Microsoft said such "unsupported theories of harm" were not enough to even warrant the CMA's current Phase 2 investigation - which was triggered on 1st September.
"The suggestion that the incumbent market leader, with clear and enduring market power, could be foreclosed by the third largest provider as a result of losing access to one title is not credible," Microsoft told GamesIndustry.biz.
"While Sony may not welcome increased competition, it has the ability to adapt and compete. Gamers will ultimately benefit from this increased competition and choice.
"Should any consumers decide to switch from a gaming platform that does not give them a choice as to how to pay for new games (PlayStation) to one that does (Xbox), then that is the sort of consumer switching behavior that the CMA should consider welfare enhancing and indeed encourage. It is not something that the CMA should be trying to prevent."
The CMA is due to notify Microsoft of its provisional findings in January 2023, at which point it can seek possible remedies to any sticking points raised. The regulator's final report - and overall ruling - will then be published no later than 1st March next year.

He's in the game and its likely his last performance, Batman was always going to be revealed anyway. They eventually would have had to reveal it and they were always going to tribute to him too. Such a weird take.

It doesnt matter. They knew what they where doing here. Its happened before so many freaking times with so many properties. Its a seriously gross marketing technique. Its the modern internet era where info spreads like wild fire. There was no need for this people would have found out anyways.

Was that ever confirmed?
I want to say that there were leaks of concept art of a Superman pitch from either Rocksteady or WB Montreal, but my understanding was that project never went beyond the pitching stage so it wasn’t really ‘canceled.’ WB Montreal is working on something else, but no one knows for sure what it is to my knowledge

Meaning I would be surprised they have another active project, or at least something past pre-production.

Developers often have multiple projects in the works, and it doesn’t seem like there is going to be any DLC for GK. I don’t remember where I read it, so I could be wrong, but I do believe it’s out there they are working on something else

They may have another active project, but maybe not past pre-production since pre-production can go from 6 months to 18 months.

It still bothers me they use Digger instead of his son that has actual superspeed and is related to the Flash

Something about tone and humor just utterly fails to click with me, and I was all for Gunn's Suicide Squad.

I'm echoing a lot of what has already been said in here but I agree that the tone is kinda strange. And I feel like we've seen evil JL/Superman a million times at this point but I'm keeping an open mind until I see some more gameplay. An open world Metropolis is super interesting though, I just hope this isn't a live service game.
Just a slightly unrelated thought: It's kind of crazy to me that evil Superman has pretty much become the trope, rather than a subversion of it

All I wanted was Batman Beyond game as the final Arkham game, that’s all I ever wanted and I would have been forever content with DC games. But no, of course not.
I agree with the mood, if that is THE JL and they are straight up maiming them all one way or another this is gonna get weird story wise.

Watch twist to be that they are in virtual world created by Brainiac, or something in that spirit.

Yeah that’s what I was going to say. They didn’t even put the release date on the trailer, it was mentioned offhand by Geoff.

I actually cannot think of a reveal that wouldn’t annoy me. How is this a sequel Arkham trilogy?
If it’s actual JL being controlled and they are going around killing people AND they get killed off, that rubs me wrong after Arkham trilogy. Comes off way too edgy.
It’s all a simulation/nightmare created by Brainiac, that’s an overplayed and boring trope.
If it’s an alternative universe JL, then it’s another fucking multiverse crap story.
Just dunno. At least it looks very good visually.

What? I thought it's a MP game like L4D/B4B/PayDay and stuff like that that require ionline testing to check thin gs working well before release. Are you sure this is just SP and no way to play co-op like those? I thiought it's 4 players against another huge player boss like Flash or Batman from justice League.

No, it's an open world game with optional co-op like Dying Light or Dead Island or Gotham Knights etc.

Ah ok. Since those games didn't offer a beta so I don't expect one for this too.
I will be honest with you: it's just a personal thing. I want to try the game for free before release. XD

Ah I see, thanks.
With the amount of superman references/Easter eggs in Arkham Knight, I thought for sure Superman would be their next game.

I guess he was putting on a more 'evil' tone for a villain version of Bats?
It's 100% Kevin Conroy.
This soundbite wasn't recorded for the game imo. I'm 99% sure i've heard this exact line and tone from a video with Conroy.
Here's something very similar:
They used it to honour him. I'm 99,9% sure that this isn't what Batman says at that point in the game. Maybe later when he breaks free of Brainacs control or something.

We dont know the time placement of the game yet. Could just as easily be before Asylum or after Knight. Will Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League be a live service?
Is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League 4 player?
Which Justice League members will be in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?
Is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League connected to Arkham Knight?
