One of South Park‘s most chaotic chapters yet will continue later this month. The next Paramount+ special, breezily titled South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID, will premiere on Thursday, Dec. 16, TVLine has learned. This will be a direct continuation
of South Park: Post COVID, which explored the lingering effects of the pandemic on 2061 versions of Stan, Kyle, Cartman (now a rabbi!) and Kenny (…now dead). Upon discovering that Kenny blamed his former pals for letting their friendship — and the world — fall by the wayside, Stan and Kyle ended the special by vowing to travel back in time and prevent the pandemic from ever happening.

As for this next special, “if Stan, Kyle and Cartman could just work together, they could go back in time to make sure COVID never happened and save Kenny’s life,” reads the official logline. “In South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID, traveling back to the
past seems to be the easy answer until they meet Victor Chaos.” Hit PLAY on the video above for a first look at South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID, then drop a comment with your thoughts below.

Oh, my God! There is more South Park next week!
South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID — the second of 14 made-for-TV films from Trey Parker and Matt Stone exclusively for streamer Paramount+ — will premiere on Dec. 16.
“If Stan, Kyle and Cartman could just work together, they could go back in time to make sure COVID never happened and save Kenny’s life. In South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID, traveling back to the past seems to be the easy answer until they meet Victor Chaos,” reads the synopsis of the movie. (Per a tease in the closing seconds of Post COVID, it is a safe assumption Butters is Victor Chaos.)
In Post COVID, which dropped on Thanksgiving, fans got a look at South Park 40 years into the future. The pandemic was still a thing, and the situation seemed almost hopeless. The boys, now grown (mostly dysfunctional) men, had to work together as they did as children to save the day.
Among the mockery targets in South Park: Post COVID were Aaron Rodgers, the general unvaccinated population and woke culture, with the latter movement having gone so far in the future that jokes no longer exist so no one can be offended.
In August, Parker and Stone inked a new megadeal with Paramount+ and Comedy Central parent ViacomCBS that runs through 2027 and includes 14 exclusive Paramount+ projects along with the flagship series being renewed through season 30.

The two South Park specials are part of the massive, 14 movie deal that South Park co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone agreed to with Viacom CBS earlier this year. The deal will see Parker and Stone release two original South Park films every year through 2027. Prior to the two most recent films, South Park also releases two specials in 2020, the South Park: Pandemic Special, and The South ParQ Vaccination Special.
