Skyrim vr cant start new game

I had the same issue at one point. Are you using any animation mods by chance? Try using Fores for Users if so. Fixed my issue, but I also had Alternate Start when my game first did it.

Honestly not 100% on what did it, but I bet it will do it if a mod starts you in 3rd person mode, since you can't actually do 3rd person in the VR version. Can't confirm, but it's my speculation.

Are the mods compatible with Skyrim Special Edition? All the mods need to be updated for the new game.

I'm loading all the mods from the in game browser...didn't know they included non compatible mods.

Also, nobody can help you if you don't list what mods you are running.

right...well now that i know they list mods for the original game in the in game browser, I can probably figure it out from there.

Very few mods for SE so far ( in comparison ) but they are creeping back on Nexus.. and the NMM is ready to go to!

I had the same problem, fixed it by moving alternate start to the end of my load order

they shouldnt be. for example the cloaks mod in-game isnt nearly as awesome as the old one. but the old one... lets jsut say the problem was so bad it dropped my FPS to 5 looking at some of em xP.

as fasr as i can tll the mods in the in-game browser should all be fine, any you've put in from outside that would be my first investigative area then if none of those seem to be the culprit, disable and enable mods one at a time till it works then you'll have your answer. any time it starts leave the disbaled mod disabled and go through the rest of em.

They do. A lot of mod authors released their mods without converting them using the Creation Kit. This caused mod and game file corruption. There's a lengthy Reddit post explaining this. A few authors are updating their mods slowly, but there are others that just copy/pasted and are probably leaving it like that. The Creation Kit got released a few days ago, so if I was you, I wouldn't use any mod that was uploaded and not updated prior to that.

mods need to be in the correct order too.

Yea all the issues I had were entirely my load order. Cheers.

Just curious, does anyone know if load order could cause this issue for no the first game but subsequent games? I want to start a second character, I wasn't changing any of the mods I have them all the same as the first game, and this happens every time.

Yes it can alter the second play. The reason being that a lot of mods were not converted via the creation kit correctly due to impatience or laziness and as a result, they are corrupting other mods and their records. Thus altering game functions and files. There's a few threads here and a few more on Reddit explaining this and warning everyone to either not download mods until you know they have been converted correctly or understand that your files and save game may be corrupted forcing you to start fresh and re-install/verify integrity.

A significant amount of mod authoers just copy/pasted their mods onto the SSE Nexus/Bethesda site without converting. SSE uses slightly different code than the old game and as a result, uses mods differently and requires mods to have a little more data/records within them which the old mods do not. I'm no author so I can't go into the depths that they can, but basically, if a mod isn't updated for SSE and hasn't been packaged with the SSE Creation Kit, then its cancer for your game and you should either avoid it, or understand the problems it can cause.

Oh, I forgot to say that I had the same issue as you and to get my second playthrough to start, I had to remove all mods except Alternate Start (as I wanted to use it to start a new game), loaded into the game, chose my character and before you select the statue, save game and load all your mods and don't forget to sort them using LOOT.
