Celta Vigo 1-4 Real Madrid: as it happened

Real Madrid win at Balaídos

Madrid led 2-1 at half-time and second-half goals from Vinicius and Valverde secured the points in Galicia for Ancelotti's men.

Real Madrid win at Balaídos to record their second victory of the season. Luka Modric was superb, as was Vinicius on the left wing. Celta had impressive spells in the first half but were unable to add to their only goal.

FT: Celta Vigo 1-4 Real Madrid

Gil Manzano blows his whistle for full-time!

Valverde sends a fresh Asensio through, but he sends his effort wide of the post.

We'll have four minutes added on.

Hazard goes on a mazy run, as he cuts inside he loses possession of the ball. His intentions were good.

Marchesin dives to his right and it's the perfect height for the keeper. 1-4

And Benzema can't convert the follow-up. Marchesin saves that too!

Marchesin saves Hazard's penalty!

Benzema has given the penalty to Hazard.

Eden Hazard stands over the ball as Celta make a change!

REAL MADRID have another penalty!

Possession stats:

Celta 51%

Real Madrid 49%

In fact, it's going to be Hazard and Asensio.

It's slowing right down now. Celta know it's game over and the changes have also played their part. It looks like Hazard will be the next change for Los Blancos.

OFF Oscar Rodriguez

ON Gabriel Veiga

Madrid changes

Modric goes off with Alaba.

Luka Modric is coming off and the home fans applaud him. Brilliant.

Óscar tries his luck from distance. It sails high and wide.

The French connection!

Camavinga sends in a curling cross from the left. Benzema meets it but it's just a bit high and he can't keep it down.

Carvajal goes off

Confirmation of that Madrid change.

OFF Dani Carvajal

ON Antonio Rudiger

OFF Goncalo Paciencia

ON Carles Perez

Madrid score a fourth

It's Fede Valverde this time as Madrid run riot.

Both sides are about to make changes!

Madrid hit Celta on the counter once again. Tchouameni starts it in his own half. He sends it out to Vinicius, who in turn passes right, where Valverde comes flying in and smashes it into the far corner. It's a super move and excellent finish. 1-4

Goooooooooooooooool!!!

FEDE VALVERDE!!!

Carvajal takes Paciencia down and Madrid have their first yellow of the night.

Aspas crosses with his right. The cross is blocked and it flies out for a corner. Óscar sends it into the danger zone, but Aidoo heads over unmarked.

Life without Casemiro is looking pretty good (for now).

Vini Jr with the third

It's a brilliant goal by Madrid. Modric involved again.

Celta had their own penalty claims up the other end before Madrid hit them on the counter and Vinicius slotted home. It's his first goal of the new season.

Modric picks out Vinicius, who runs from the halfway line before rounding Marchesin and tapping it home.

Goooooooooooooooooooool!!!

VINICIUS!!!

PACIENCIA!

It's a super strike by the Portuguese striker. His low drive goes just wide of the post.

Cervi sends in a deep cross from the left but there is nobody there to meet it at the back post. Signed, sealed, delivered, not collected.

Tonight was the first time Aspas scored against Courtois.

Aspas smashes a cross in from the left; Courtois palms it away.

I have no half-time changes to report. Coudet will be happy with how his side have performed but will be disappointed by conceding two goals.

It's Celta 1-2 Real Madrid if you're just joining our coverage.

Real Madrid get us underway for the second half!

Madrid lead at the break

Modric's wonderstrike has Los Blancos in front at Balaídos.

HT: Celta 1-2 Real Madrid

It has been a hugely entertaining contest so far. Madrid lead despite being outplayed for large parts of the first half. Modric's stunner has them in front at the break.

Madrid's corner is taken short. Aspas wins it back and takes it up the pitch, before being fouled. Gil Manzano blows his whistle for half-time but Celta are not happy. They wanted a free.

Tapia flies across the box to block Vinicius' shot from close range. Another corner for Real Madrid.

There will be TWO minutes added on!

Modric golazo

Madrid take the lead again!

Celta were on top and now Madrid lead thanks to a moment of genius from Modric.

Modric gets away from Tapia and curls it into the top corner from 25 yards. Pure magic from Modric.

GOAL! LUKA MODRIC!

That is absolutely sensational! Wow!

Benzema wants a penalty!

His shot is going in and he appeals for handball but play continues...

Valverde crosses the free from the left and kicks it out of play. Ancelotti's head drops.

Benzema vs Aspas

Aspas wins this one.

Celta are enjoying an impressive spell. Madrid are struggling to recover the ball. Galan is causing all sorts of problems on the left.

PACIENCIA!

Celta switch the play really well. Galan finds Paciencia in the air with a left-wing cross and the big striker's header goes just wide!

Carvajal is ambitious on the right, shooting from 30+ yards at an angle. It's blocked and Celta build out from the back once again.

CERVI!

It's a super strike but just curls away from Courtois' left post. Celta are on top.

Two goals (two penalties) so far at Balaídos. Mallo goes down the right wing. He finds Beltrán. Camavinga comes in with a great tackle on the edge of the box.

Galan drives at Carvajal, buys himself a yard, before firing a left-footed shot over the bar. 1-1

Celta are giving Madrid a proper game here! Madrid aren't comfortable. Benzema is dropping deep to get them playing. Mallo is frustrating Vinicius.

Aspas, who else?

Aspas equalises from the spot!

Goooooooooooooool!!!

ASPAS fires it past Courtois, who dives the right way but it's right in the corner.

Paciencia heads it, Militao puts his arms up and it's another clear penalty!

CELTA PENALTY!

Militao handball!

An exquisite first-time flick by Benzema finds Modric, who then hits it first time to Vinicius but Celta do well to defend the lightning-quick move.

Madrid's average age drops dramtically tonight with the departure of Casemiro and the absence of Kroos, who is out with flu.

Vinicius drives at Mallo but the club captain does well and eventually Celta win a free as Vinicius pulls Mallo down.

Benzema makes it 0-1

Benzema scores from the spot at Balaídos!

Benzema rolls it into the bottom right corner, sending Marchesin the wrong way!

Karim Benzema opens his account for the season from the spot!

It's a clear penalty but the Celta players continue to protest...

Referee Gil Manzano is checking the monitor!

Madrid have a corner on the right after some good play by Vinicius. It's Madrid's first corner of the night. Modric's corner comes in and the Madrid players are asking for a handball. This will go to VAR!

Cervi pushes Vinicius over. Ancelotti is not happy with that one. Madrid have a free-kick.

Carvajal heads the corner away. It lands to Cervi on the edge of the box but he shoots wide from about 25 yards. 0-0

Some very nice link-up play down the right earns Celta a corner.

It's a midfield three of Tchouameni, Modric and Camavinga for Los Blancos. Valderde is on the right and he blasts an effort over the bar. It's Madrid first effort of the night.

Courtois saves Oscar's tame free-kick.

Tchouameni takes us his position in the holding midfield role. He's Casemiro's replacement. The Frenchman commits a foul on Paciencia and it's an early free for the home side.

Celta are playing from left to right.

Celta get us underway!

It's Celta vs Real Madrid!

Madrid are playing in their black kit tonight. The last time Madrid donned their all-black strip was in last season’s Clásico at the Bernabéu - it didn’t bring them much luck, they lost the game 0-4. On that occasion, the team were playing in black to celebrate the club’s 120 years.

The players are in the tunnel!

Real Madrid have the squad depth

Real Madrid having signed Aurelien Tchouaméni from Monaco and with the versatility of Toni Kroos, Carlo Ancelotti is confident that he has the options in midfield to fill the gap left by Casemiro.

"Casemiro has been a key player, who fits perfectly with Kroos and Luka Modric. It's been an incredible combination for all the success we've had in the last few years," Ancelotti said in a news conference.

"Within the squad we have a lot of good replacements. Tchouameni was signed in order to play in this position. We have some other options like Kroos who can play in this position, as he did in the second year I was here as a coach back in 2014 when we won 22 games in a row.

"Replacing Casemiro with another player with his same skills is difficult but we have other players ready to replace him with other characteristics. They can play in this position, but not with the same skills.

"We need to keep in mind that a player like Casemiro, defensively, is more similar to Tchouameni than Kroos, but Toni has some different characteristics and can also play in that position."

Kick-off at Balaídos is just 15 minutes away!

We're getting underway at 10 pm local time!

Casemiro's record at Real Madrid

336 matches, 31 goals, 29 assists & 5 Champions League titles!

Celta Vigo vs Real Madrid

The stage is set. Balaídos will welcome the teams out very shortly!

Aspas and Paciência in attack

Celta Vigo will start with club legend Iago Aspas and new signing Gonçalo Paciência up front tonight.

The 28-year-old joined from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Paciência has played for a number of Portuguese clubs including Porto, with a short spell at Greek club Olympiacos in between.

His last four years were spent in Germany, between Schalke 04 and Eintracht Frankfurt.

On the opening day of the season, he netted in the club's 2-2 draw with Espanyol.

Manchester United announce the signing of Casemiro from Real Madrid

So no Casemiro in Madrid's squad tonight for obvious reasons. Manchester United are hoping he can have an immediate impact on Erik ten Hag’s side, who currently sit bottom of the Premier League. With his departure, Madrid’s famous midfield trio of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and himself has been broken, the Bermuda Triangle as Carlo Ancelotti called it on preseason.

Casemiro leaves Real Madrid; Kroos out

Casemiro’s departure to Manchester United was the talk of Friday morning at Valdebebas. “He wants a new challenge,” explained Carlo Ancelotti in his pre-match press conference. Casemiro did most of the training session with the rest of his team-mates but left before the end.

Casemiro’s departure was not the only thing concerning Ancelotti. The Italian has found himself without Toni Kroos, who is suffering from a bout of flu. The German is also out for the trip to Balaídos and will force his manager to look for other solutions in midfield. Rodrygo was also absent from training after failing to recover in time.
