What do we call this part of the aria usually near the end when the instruments stop and the singer briefly improvises before being joined again by the instruments?

In music, a cadenza (from Italian: cadenza [kaˈdɛntsa], meaning cadence; plural, cadenze [kaˈdɛntse]) is, generically, an improvised or written-out ornamental passage played or sung by a soloist or soloists, usually in a "free" rhythmic style, and often allowing virtuosic display.

How can the music in Alleluia Vidimus Stellam be described?

The texture is monophonic (even though several singers are participating, there is only one melody), there is no consistent pulse, and the melody is based on a church mode (Dorian to be specific). The church mode and the lack of pulse lead to the almost enchanting "other-wordly" feel that is common in plainchant.

What do the insistent triplets in the right hand of the piano accompaniment in erlkonig represent?

“Der Erlkönig” starts with the piano rapidly playing triplets to create a sense of urgency and simulate the horse's galloping.

What happens to the mode towards the end of this excerpt?

What happens to the mode towards the end of this excerpt? It changes from minor to major.
