Ava Marie Clements and Leah Rose Clements[3] (born July 7, 2010), known as the Clements twins, are American models and social media personalities who are identical twins. When the twins were seven years old, their parents signed with two modelling agencies.

Several news outlets have referred to them as "the most beautiful twins in the world",[4] and they are among the highest-earning child influencers on Instagram; they earn an estimated revenue of approximately USD$6,000 for each Instagram post. Their parents have received criticism for not letting the twins enjoy their childhood as normal children. As of July 2022, they have more than 1.9 million followers on Instagram.[5][failed verification][better source needed]

The parents of the twins wanted to start them in modeling when they were six months old.[3] However, Jaqi (the twins' mother) was too busy and abandoned the plan.[3] When the twins turned seven, Jaqi decided it was time for them to pursue modeling. At the time, the Clements' neighbor wanted models to help advertise a newly opened children's boutique. The twins posed for pictures together, and Jaqi sent the images to contacts she had collected from her first attempt to get the twins a modeling career. She met with various modeling agencies, and eventually signed contracts with two agencies: one in Orange County, California and another in Los Angeles.[6] A year after starting their modeling careers, the twins had gained more than half a million followers on Instagram.[1] The twins are currently managed by Nick Styne.[citation needed]

Personal lives[edit]

The twins were born on July 7, 2010[7] to Kevin and Jaqi Clements.[4] They are from Orange County, California.[2]

The twins' father, Kevin, was diagnosed with cancer in 2019. The twins used their Instagram account to help raise funds and find a donor for Kevin's bone marrow transplant. Kevin successfully survived cancer as a result.[2][4]

The twins have a brother, Chase, who is two years older than them and also works as a model.[6][8][third-party source needed]

Public image and criticism[edit]

The Clements have been dubbed "the most beautiful twins in the world" by various media outlets.[4] 9Honey | Style and Inside Edition made comments about the twins' beauty.[1][2]

Critics have said that the parents should "[l]et them be kids". Their mother responded that the two enjoy modeling.[9] Academic Ana Saragoza expressed concern that, through sponsored posts, their parents "signed away [the Clements twins'] right of publicity ... and that they cannot void the contracts their parents signed"; she asserted that they were "unprotected child laborers" as defined by the California Child Actor's Bill. Saragoza also criticised that the twins could not manage their own Instagram account, as the network does not allow users under 13 years old.

According to Kyle Hjelmeseth, whose digital management and marketing firm represents the Clements twins, the value his company assigns for influencer postings in general is $1 per 10 followers, per post; a sliding scale is used when their followers increase to avoid the cost becoming prohibitive.[12] In 2020, the South China Morning Post named them the sixth-highest earning Instagram influencer(s) under the age of ten, with an estimated revenue of almost $6,000 per post.[13] According to Saragoza, the Clements can earn more than $10,000 for a sponsored post. Jaqi claims that the twins keep their earnings, and that she is not paid to be their manager.[9]

When their dad Kevin was diagnosed with leukaemia and lymphoma, the girls made it their mission to help find him the perfect bone marrow match.

They took to their Instagram and encouraged their followers to get tested - and their campaign, and Kevin’s story, went global.

“The response was awesome - I love them being able to use their platform to help other people as well,” Kevin said.

“We partnered with DKMS, and it’s an ability to get yourself swabbed and find out if you are a donor and get on the registry.

“It’s an easy process to be a bone marrow donor, and I think a lot of people have this misconception that it is hard and painful, but it’s really not.

“Having them have a chance to do that and to help me out, but also to help so many other people out, it’s amazing.”

Successful transplant

Kevin later found a match in his brother and has successfully undergone the bone marrow transplant - and the girls have been helping their dad through his recovery.

“It is a long, long road. I’m about 39 days out from the transplant, and it is rough at times,” Kevin said.

“But at times, I feel energy and I feel excited, and being at home and resting and being around these guys is amazing.

“It always brings a smile to my face and gives me that energy to keep moving, keep pushing, and look at the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Continuing to raise awareness

And the girls haven’t stopped there - they are now also selling nail polish to raise funds for their cousin Shane, who diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) at 10-months-old.

“They have a cousin who was born with this unfortunate disease,” Kevin said.

“My brother-in-law and sister-in-law, who are the parents of Shane, went on a campaign to promote screening for newborns.

“So the girls partnered up with Nail and Bone, a nail polish line, and a lot of the proceeds go towards SMA, and the research to find a cure.”
