You can use Google Maps to get an idea of distance and driving time. What time of year you are talking about will make a big difference due to weather conditions, snow etc.

Hard to answer your questions not knowing where in Utah you are going and when you plan on doing this. You would take different routes to Salt Lake than you would to St George. Weather could be a factor in the winter, not so much in the summer.

Right now (no snow) Google Maps says 11 hours.
From SF to the NV border is a mix of urban, suburban, mountain foothills then into the Sierra. Traffic can be a beast.
Once into NV it's high desert. Hot in summer, cold in winter. For those not schooled in how beautiful the desert can be it will seem barren and desolate. But it takes a patient eye to appreciate it.

If by Utah, you mean Salt Lake, it is I-80 all the way - about 11 hours driving time. Whether you need to stop to overnight is up to you. As jrcDUblin suggested, check google maps.

Good lord, No definitely wasnt trying to be condescending or patronizing, but I think there is a generational gap between White Dahlia and myself (im guessing decades), so sorry if you took it that way. I even put a smiley face after I admitted that "I was assuming" that you were assuming.

There are two main highways to choose from in Nevada There is highway 50 or highway 80.
I have driven 80 the most times toSalt Lake City.
I have driven most of highway 50, but not all of it.
In terms of -do you need an overnight between San Francisco to Salt Lake City. Yes. We often do two.
In terms of time
1) From San Francisco to Lake Tahoe/Reno its 4 hours (could be longer if traffic; could be shorter if no traffic.)
2) From Reno to Elko, Nevada which is a good place to stop on highway 80, its about 4 hours to 4 1/2.
its 289 miles.
This is high desert with some high altitude passes. In summer, its not a factor, although sometimes can be windy. In winter, its subject to stormy conditions and can have some snow, so best to check weather forecasts.
3) From Elko to Salt Lake City, the border town you will get to is Wendover, which is a small gambling community. If you don't stop there, it will take you about 3 to 4 hours and will take about 3 hours plus.
as such, your total travel time is about 11 to 12 hours in good weather conditions.
For things to see between San Francisco and Salt Lake City on the 80
1) Lake Tahoe
2) Reno
3) Trails Museum, eight miles west of Elko
4) Lamoille Canyon in Elko
5) Bonneville Salt Flats and casinos sin Wendover.
6) Salt Lake
If you take 50 instead, which is considered the loneliest road, things along that corridor are
1) Lake Tahoe
2) Carson City
3) side trip to Virginia City
4) Grimes Point - Petroglyprhs and Caves in Fallon
5) Ely Nevada - train excursion, and other things to see
6) Great Basin National Park
If you were to drive it and wanted to see things first night
1) Lake Tahoe or Reno
2) Decide route
a) If 80, Elko
b) if 50, Ely
If you have multiple drivers and can sleep in the car, its an amazingly long drive from San Francisco to Salt Lake City but can be done with a very early start and a very late arrival into Salt Lake City area. I would advise against that. You could also do San Francisco to Elko and then complete the drive the next day with 1 overnight.
