It’s an important movie to me if you want to learn about the civil war.
I love how it has classic civil war songs like when Johnny comes marching home!I would recommend it’s for ages 13+.I’m ten and I saw it when I was nine witch I think is ok .

kids need to be old enough to understand what's wrong here
there are plenty of other "classics" that don't romanticize the Confederacy. if you haven't seen it in 20 years, please read this before considering letting kids watch it: //www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2020-06-08/hbo-max-racism-gone-wi… besides everything that's wrong with it, it's just not the type of film most kids would enjoy anyway.

Epic portrait of narcissism
While Scarlet faces some rough times ahead in her life in the upcoming Civil War, she is by far privileged... Blessed with inherited wealth, fair skin, good looks, and a loyal family... She has everything in life... Or so would seem. In reality, Scarlet is living lesser as a human than her own slaves, who are about the only somewhat believable humans depicted on screen... For Scarlet is absent of humanity, love, and all the immaterial genuine human connections that makes a life worth the struggle of living. She is doomed to forever look upon what she does not have with envy, and for what she does have, with resentment. It can certainly be said this film glosses over the harsh realities of the American South under the slave system... The times are depicted in such fervour romanticism that it becomes absurdly comical. This is a work of romantic fiction however, so it need not be historically accurate. It need not teach the audience any moral message, if anything its sheer politically incorrect attitude is a refreshing sight to behold. This feature, unintentionally amusing, makes the film even better and fits seamlessly with the kind of personalities shown on screen. The acting is truly stunningly sublime, Vivien Leigh portrays her character with relentless perfection... She completely encapsulates in her performance the portrait of a tireless narcissist-plagued by unrequited infatuation... Acting as arguably one of the most insufferable characters of all time. I detract one star from the film only for its drawn-out length, which makes it very difficult to watch in one sitting. Overall however, the film is a cinematic masterpiece, with every scene masterfully crafted into a heavenly romanticized motion-picture landscape.

A product of its time, but required viewing for any student of film and/or American history
So much about this film is iconic that it is likely that young people these days will come across a spoof or reference to Gone With the Wind before the real deal. For those interested in film history, Gone With the Wind is such a juggernaut of American popular culture (it is the highest-grossing movie of all time when adjusted for inflation) that is goes beyond film history and becomes one for the history books period. Gone With the Wind was controversial from the moment of its release. Its racial themes are absolutely problematic, but when it is understood as a product of its time, it becomes a historical document, evidence of pop culture's treatment of slavery, race and the Civil War at the time. In the era this movie was made, the role of a servant or slave was one of the only available for black actors. As the debate over Confederate monuments rages on, one could argue that this film is one big Confederate monument. It may be, but it can be studied as an example of the sensibilities of some people back in 1939. It is one of America's most illuminating cultural documents, and should be viewed with knowledge and understanding of its historical context, from the treatment of Hattie McDaniel to the convoluted process of making such an epic film. Butterfly McQueen, best known for saying "I don't know nothing 'bout birthing babies," hated her role because of its stereotypical and annoying nature. In later life, she became an activist dedicated to atheism, saying "I think America is heaven, and some people are hell." This historical context gives new dimension to this epic film. While I find it unlikely that younger kids will want to sit through this four-hour-long, 80-year-old historical romantic drama, if they do, they will find that some of the violence and sexuality is just as emotionally impactful today as it was in 1939. If you watch this grand production with your children, discuss the character of Scarlett O'Hara and whether or not she could be considered a good role model. Discuss the film's attitude on race and give historical context, such as the Lost Cause of the South. This film may be the springboard to research the true history of slavery, Reconstruction and Jim Crow, the latter being the era in which this movie was made.

I think the book is better
Gone with the Wind is a great movie in general. The book is amazing although a long read. Some of the stuff can be very misleading. The movie romanticizes slavery, making them seem all happy and loving their masters. Which isn't the reality at all. But the story is amazing and I recommend watching but first read the book first so you can compare!

You will be blown away
A very quoted movie and also made a lots so spoofs out of too. Can be high on tension at times despite it's old fashioned romantic tone. Best watched around the Holidays and New Years Eve when in a fine company of well dressed people. In consumerism there are tons of version of this movie.
