What is Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging about?
Angus the fluffy cat retains its dignity even in a crazy Eastbourne family, unlike them. Eldest daughter Georgia is completely besotted with 'Stiff Dylans' band hottie Robbie, who just moved in from London and helps run an organic groceries shop with his brother Tom, whom her best friend Jas has the hots for. Peter Dyer calls Georgia his best ever kissing-course pupil, but she ignores him and later the brothers' other classmate Dave the Laugh. Robbie was considering to dump haughty Lindsay, but reconsiders given the immature brat's apparent cruelty. Thus manipulative Georgia keeps changing her mind about a grand birthday party and her father's career opportunities as engineer in New Zealand, while mother seems to flirt with hunky interior decorator Jem.

Based on a successful series of books, Georgia is a fourteen year old Indian girl who has parents that don't get her, a little sister that annoys her, doesn't like the way she looks and wishes she had a boyfriend. All the wacky hi-jinks and good old-fashioned adolescent angst that a PG rating will allow are told through entries into her diary, including the trials and tribulations of learning to kiss. Queen of Indian cross over comedies like Bend It Like Beckham, Gurinder Chadha is in the director's chair.

Accomplishing the difficult trick of being simultaneously teen-savvy and terrifically sweet, carried along on its director's usual generosity of spirit, it deserves to be a huge hit. Full review British schoolgirl comedy best left to those still in uniform. Full review TV veteran Davies (Jonathan Creek) seems to struggle a little with playing a proper grown-up, but as well as an engaging teenage supporting cast there's also the delight of seeing one of the best feline performances ever committed to celluloid.
