How to watch Black Widow in order

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has arrived to wrap up the movies side of Phase 4 of the MCU and, fittingly, it takes place right at the end of the current timeline.

Talking to CinemaBlend, producer Nate Moore confirmed that it likely happens "concurrent" with Thor: Love and Thunder and "almost concurrent" with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, the start of Phase 5.

There are hints in the movie about this as we see Easter egg nods to New Asgard and Scott Lang's book Look Out for the Little Guy! which was spotted in the Quantumania trailer shown exclusively at Comic-Con.

So that's nice and easy to place on the timeline. We're assuming it's after Werewolf by Night, but that special has so little connection to other events that it could be any time in the timeline.

With so much going on in Phase Four, it can get a bit confusing, so that's why we're here to help with a definitive guide to watching the MCU in chronological order, if that's what you wish to do.

We suggest watching Loki after Avengers: Endgame (as that's when 2012's Loki breaks off into his own timeline) and What If...? after Loki, as that's the show that introduces the multiverse.

One note on our timeline: if something takes place in multiple time periods (such as Eternals), we've put it where the bulk of the movie or TV show takes place.

You might want to take some slight exceptions, such as not watching the Ant-Man and The Wasp credits scene until after Avengers: Infinity War, but it depends on how dedicated you are to the order.

And don't even get us started on Agents of SHIELD's final season, which mostly took place in an alternate timeline before eventually merging back with the main MCU timeline. So for the sake of ease, just watch it all after season six, and it'll make as much sense.

You could also watch the MCU in its release-date order, and if that's the approach you fancy, head this way for our guide.

Marvel Studios: The Infinity Saga - Complete Box Set

(While we've got you, were you looking for Star Wars' timeline? We've got that covered. X-Men's movie order? Help yourself. What about DC Comics movies' chronological order? Easy peasy. Harry Potter? Accio timeline!)

(Oh, and if you're wondering why we haven't included Venom: Let There Be Carnage or Morbius, it's because even though their credit scenes feature MCU crossovers, the movies themselves aren't MCU movies.)

What order does Black Widow go in?

Black Widow Marvel Timeline Black Widow is set earlier in the Marvel timeline, and in case you need clarification, this is exactly when the story of Black Widow happens in the MCU timeline: right after Captain America: Civil War and before Avengers: Infinity War.

What should I watch first before Black Widow?

Spoiler-free version: What to watch before Black Widow Captain America: Winter Soldier (2014 - movie) Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015 - movie) Captain America: Civil War (2016 - movie) Avengers: Infinity War (2018 - movie)

Can you watch Black Widow first?

To date, Black Widow has appeared in seven Marvel movies, not including her own solo movie. Seeing as they play out in chronological order, the best way to watch them is in release order.

Can you watch Black Widow before endgame?

Black Widow is a prequel film set before Avengers: Endgame and doesn't do much to advance the plot of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's more a character study of Natasha Romanoff, an original Avenger who has been waiting for her own solo film for far too long.
