How often can you straighten your hair without damaging it Reddit

I will straighten my hair around 3 times a year. I love my straight hair tbh. But Depends what events I have. When I first went natural, I was also anti heat and was worried I’d ruin my curls. My recommendation is to invest in a good heat protectant, space out when you straighten it, and have like a follow up routine.

So if I know I’m going to straighten my hair I’ll usually do a deep condition, olaplex treatment. And I use the olaplex heat protectant oil and bond cream before I straighten my hair. My hair will typically last a week or so before I have to wash. Once I do I’ll do the same thing of a deep condition , olaplex, and really moisturize. My curls remain undamaged.

I’ve heard up to 2-3 times a year but it really depends on how high the heat you’re using is. Straightening once and having the heat too high could ruin your curl pattern.

This really depends on your hair diameter and curl wave type. If you have tighter curls/coils and fine hair it will be much less than someone who is coarse with a tighter curl/ coil . Also depends on the health of your hair and temp and technique used to straighten.

How many times can I straighten my hair without damaging it?

It's generally suggested that heat styling be done not more than once a week. Natural hair should always be freshly shampooed, conditioned, and completely dry before heat styling. Straightening dirty hair with a flat iron will only burn oil and dirt, which will lead to more damage.

Will my hair get damaged if I straighten it once a week?

No. The heat styling is so infrequent that there is virtually no way straightening your hair one time a hear will damage it—excluding too high heat at once.

Will straightening my hair twice a week damage it?

To keep it from becoming damaged from the heat just try using a heat protectant spray, you spray it into your hair before applying the heat. :) Twice a week straighten your hair can damage and result in the dryness and rough texture of your hair. So you can avoid for your healthy hair growth if you can.

Is it okay to put heat on your hair once a week?

Giving your hair some time to recover between heat sessions is vital to limiting the risk of heat damage. The general rule of thumb is that you should use heat around once a week, as anything more than that can cause severe damage to your locks. The more often you use heat, the higher your risk of heat damage.
