Here are a few key pointers to help you out.

and a small is 70g.) Equivalents. 1 pound = 500 g = 4 – 5 medium onions = 3 large onions = 2 to 3 cups chopped, depending on how coarse you chop it. Most of the onions at the store are large to extra-large onions (in the onion bin) or medium (in a three-pound mesh bag.) 2-3 medium onions make a pound. 1 large onion will be less than a pound. Onions range in size from less than one-inch in diameter to more than 4.5-inches in diameter. The most common sizes sold in the U.S. for retail are between 2 to 3-3/4 inches in diameter.
