Mar 4, 2009 I'm new here and I just bought an 06 RT. I am quite mechanically inclined, and can do most mods myself, how do I make my RT faster? What can I buy, and do myself, to get this car to go faster, improve performance? I am new to muscle cars, but eager to learn, and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Depends on how much you want to spend. There are the basic mods like a Cold air intake, and the exhaust. That'll add maybe like 10-20hp and aren't too exspensive. I would definently buy a Predator tuner. You can make your car feel like a beast with firmer shifts, turn of mds, set the speed and rev limiters, and also ajust the WOT spark and fuel which
comes in handy when you get into the higher up mods. Then there are those of us that just say screw it. You can drop a 426 stroker in but that'll cost ya quite a bit. Personally I started with a cold air intake and predator. Then I got bored and had student loans to burn so I had my 5.7 rebuilt with new heads, cam, crank, pistons, and rods. The engine upgrade parts and labor ended up being around 6,000. But I'm not done. I am now just installing a wideband sensor and new injectors. Here is where
the predator comes in handy because I can really optimize how much fuel my engine gets and keep her in her prime. And pretty soon I'm going to throw on a customized twin turbo kit and put on a cowl induction hood. I hope this helped. There are tons of options to get more power out of our ladies.

Welcome to the forums... you'll want to do some searches through the Performance threads to get more detail. This has been answered way too many times to go into detail, however, since you're mechanically inclined... Now go forth and search the rest. We have all been new at some point and have WAY too many hours
spent searching through posts... it's sort of a right of passage.
*Diablo Sport Predator - computer tuner that is, hands down, the best tuner available. It'll give you the most pep for the buck and
best of all, you won't have to get your hands greasy!
*CAI (Cold Air Intake) - Yet another Chevy/Ford battle, but most seem happy with the aFe Stage II CAI. I know I love mine. Get a nice whistle and a throaty roar from under the hood. Plus, it'll give you more horsepower than those racing stripes
*Exhaust - Whatever sounds best. Another debate not worth getting into. I personally dropped the suitcase muffler (known as the Brylcreem mod) and replaced the stock resos (resonators just
before the exhaust tips) with Magnaflows... absolutely LOVE the sound.
*Some sort of No ESP mod - Disable the traction control system completely. No, pushing the ESP Off button doesn't do jack, unless you want to spin your tires in the snow. Trying to get a good launch only to have your throttle cut because your tires spin doesn't quite do you justice. (Search for no esp mod). I did mine in 15 minutes with a small cut piece of plexiglass, a toggle switch from ACE Hardware, and some extra
wire
*Become a better driver - This one hardly gets mentioned in this way, but your car can only get you so far. If you're not familiar with what it can do, you're never going to harness the potential of your car. Take it out for some good spins and learn the tolerances, efficient shift points, launch rpms, etc.
*Make more money and get your heads, cam, headers done at the same time...
