How do you cook frozen PF Chang egg rolls in Airfryer?

This easy method for Air Fryer Egg Rolls shows you how to get perfectly cooked egg rolls or spring rolls that are tender on the inside and crispy on the outside using your air fryer or Ninja Foodi. These chicken, pork, or vegetable egg rolls are cooked straight from frozen in no time for the perfect snack or party appetizer!

Egg rolls are not just saved for the take-out occasion. You can buy frozen egg rolls almost anywhere these days, but heating them up in the oven takes some time.

The air fryer makes this super simple by thawing AND crisping up the egg roll in less time which results in an egg roll that is warmed through on the inside and crispy on the outside without the use of any excess oil!

Shouldn’t I just use the directions on the packaging?

Since the air fryer is a small convection oven, it uses dry heat to circulate air around the food making it cook fast. This means that the time and temperature may need to be adjusted and will be different from what’s on the package instructions.

This is especially true with frozen foods as they are thawing AND cooking during the air frying process. Use the time and temperature in this recipe as a guide for cooking egg rolls in the air fryer.

🤔Why make frozen egg rolls in the air fryer?

There’s less to clean up. No oil splatters to clean up from deep frying. Not even a sheet pan that you’d put in the oven! The only thing that gets dirty is the air fryer basket which is easy to clean.

Perfectly crunchy egg rolls. This is probably one of the only methods you can use to get a crunchy egg roll without using oil for deep frying.

They cook quickly. A perfectly cooked egg roll takes just 15 minutes or less to cook in the air fryer.

No babysitting. Once the egg rolls are in the air fryer, all you’ll need to do is flip once and let the air fryer do the rest of the cooking. This means no watching over a hot pot of boiling oil that can get messy and dangerous!

No need to thaw! Frozen egg rolls will thaw and become nice and crispy all in one shot.

🥘Ingredients & Equipment

Frozen Egg Rolls – The choice is yours here. You can purchase any frozen egg roll you enjoy no matter the size and what it’s filled with. Popular kinds include PF Changs, frozen pork egg rolls, Pagoda, Minh, and Tai Pei brands. I recently purchased gluten free egg rolls from Aldi and they were delicious!

Air Fryer or Ninja Foodi – Any air fryer can be used to make your favorite frozen foods. I stand by my Ninja Foodi multicooker and Ninja Foodi Grill which both have air frying capabilities. We seriously use it 2-3 times a day and it has a permanent place on our countertop.

📖How To Air Fry Frozen Egg Rolls

1️⃣ Preheat your air fryer to 400F for 3-5 minutes.

2️⃣ Add frozen egg rolls to the bottom of the air fryer basket and set the timer for 15 minutes. You may not use all of that time.

3️⃣ At the 7-8 minute mark, flip the egg rolls using tongs, they should be defrosted and thawed at this point.

4️⃣ Cook for another 5-8 minutes or until egg rolls are golden brown and crispy, but not burnt. This amount of time will depend on how hot your individual air fryer is.

5️⃣ Remove from air fryer with tongs and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

⏲Best Time & Temperature To Air Fry Frozen Egg Rolls

The amount of time it takes to air fry a frozen egg roll depends on how thick the sausage is. These are general recommendations.  The typical egg roll needs about 10-15 minutes to cook at a temperature 375F depending on its thickness and length. Always check regularly within the last 5 minutes of cooking to ensure they don’t burn or overcook as every air fryer is different!

  • Thin & Small Egg Rolls – 7-10 minutes at 375F
  • Standard Size Egg Rolls – 10-15 minutes at 375
  • Homemade Egg Rolls -15-18 minutes at 375

📝Note: You can air fry your frozen rolls at a temperature of 350F but it will take longer to get crispy.

When it comes to finger foods, appetizers, and snacks, spring rolls are always a hit! Making frozen spring rolls in an air fryer results in fantastically crispy and especially tasty spring rolls that come out perfectly every time! I’m craving them right now!

It takes less than 15 minutes from freezer to plate, so when you are hungry, your tummy won’t have to wait long for these air fryer spring rolls. My whole family loves spring rolls! This is why they're usually nearby as the air fryer warms up and the smell of the spring rolls cooking starts wafting through the air!

It doesn't matter if we're noshing on them while watching the game or as a starter for a tasty Chinese food meal. I also make them for parties as cocktail appetizers along with other easy-to-eat goodies.

That said, get ready for one of the simplest recipes I’ve posted. Great taste does not have to be complicated, so when you are in a hurry, your air fryer is your trusted kitchen companion.

Take a minute to simply adore how awesome your air fryer is too! You will realize how versatile they are and how well they cook all sorts of food without having to add oil. Nothing is ever greasy, and it keeps the calorie count down! Winning!

What You'll Need

This is a “one and done” recipe. All you need - other than an air fryer - is the frozen spring rolls! 2 per person is usually a good amount, but if you want more, just get extras.

You can also pick up or make a dipping sauce. I enjoy spring rolls with duck sauce, my homemade sweet and sour sauce, Thai sweet chili sauce, or hot Chinese mustard. They also taste great just simply dipped in soy sauce!

*And if you didn't get a packet of some kind of sauce in your box of spring rolls, it's time to write a letter of complaint! 🙂

How to Air Fry Frozen Spring Rolls

Using the air fryer is a cinch! However, this is one of those recipes that I really advocate pre-heating your air fryer. Most times this is just a personal preference, but my spring rolls are simply crispier when I take a moment for the extra step!

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 390ºF (199ºC) for about 5 minutes.
  2. Place the frozen spring rolls into the air fryer basket or onto the trays in a single layer, spaced out so they’re not touching.
  3. Air fry the spring rolls at 390ºF (199ºC) for 4 minutes. Roll them over to the other side and air fry for another 4 minutes. If you like your spring rolls extra crispy (like I do!), then continue to cook them for about 2 more minutes.
  4. Remove the spring rolls from the air fryer and serve hot with a dipping sauce of choice. So delicious!

Air Fryer Tips: Remember, your air fryer model may have a different cooking time than mine, so use my instructions as a guide, but keep an eye on your food as always. Also, while this particular recipe does not call for any additional oil, be sure not to use an aerosolized cooking spray on your air fryer in any situation. Use a pastry brush or paper towel to apply the oil as directed in your particular recipe.

Storing Cooked Spring Rolls

It will be a rare occasion that there is any spring rolls leftover, but if you have some, wrap them in plastic wrap or foil. Place the wrapped spring rolls into an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 - 3 days.

Reheating Fried Spring Rolls

To reheat your spring rolls and keep them as crispy as possible, the best method is to return them to your air fryer. Use the same temperatures in the recipe card below and heat for 4 - 5 minutes, or until warmed to your satisfaction.

The next best method is to heat a frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat with a light coating of oil. Place the spring rolls into the heated pan in a single layer with spacing between each roll. Turn as needed and heat until warmed through completely.

You can also re-heat cooked spring rolls in your oven at 350ºF (175ºC) for about 10 minutes. Or microwave in short 30-second increments, although with this method you will lose the 'crispness' of the wrapper.
