Does invisible shield prevent screen crack?

4.0 out of 5 starsGood protector, but suffers from flaws found in all glass screen protectors for the new iPhones.

I want to love this screen protector, but there are a couple of things holding me back from giving it 5 stars. First of all, the glass is clear and looks great on the screen for the most part. It feels just like the glass on the iPhone. However, before ordering this I was worried about the curving glass on the new iPhones just as other reviewers have stated; and I figured it wouldn't be that big of a deal; but I have to say, I'm not sure I'd buy this again. I wish they could make a curved glass screen protector that would fit the curvature of the new iPhones, but that may be asking a lot. If you don't place this perfectly, there may be some overhang on the edges of the phone where the straight glass protector goes over the curved screen. This happened to me. I have some slight overhang on the bottom of my phone below the home button. Everywhere else it looks great. I'm worried dust might work its way in to this overhang, and cause the stickiness to lose its effect.

It's very tough installing this perfectly since you can't line this up with the edges of the screen (due to the curve). So you have to go off of the speaker and home button, which I did. However, although what looks to be almost a perfect placement, I still have that overhang on the bottom. This screen protector is not forgiving at all for even a slight misplacement. I'm hoping ZAGG can do something to remedy this. Maybe make the installation process more efficient? Use some different type of adhesive that allows the installer to try a second time, or to shift it slightly?

Also, because this doesn't cover the curved glass portion of the screen, there is a gap between my case and the screen protector, which seems to be a great place for dust to collect. It really starts to show after a day of use, and isn't the easiest to clean out.

I have not experienced the cracking in the glass, but I have only had the protector one for a little over a day now. If you seriously want a glass screen protector rather than a plastic one, then I'd say this is probably your best pick. I'm sure all glass screen protectors for the new iPhones will have similar problems.

Zagg is pretty confident in its InvisibleShield screen-protection technology. In fact, if you shell out the money for its $79 kit, which comes with a Sapphire Defense Screen and iFrogz Clear Vue Case, the company will cover the cost of a broken screen up to $100 if InvisibleShield fails to prevent cracks.

To make use of the new deal, you’ll need to register your device and the screen protector you bought. Then, if your screen does crack, you can file a claim by sending photos of the crack along with a receipt for the repair. You don’t need to have the iFrogz case installed to file a claim — only the screen protector.

So how will Zagg pay you back? The company will send you a gift card for the repair up to $100.

While quite generous, it’s important to keep in mind that most screen repairs for flagship phones will run past the $100 mark — Apple lists out-of-warranty repairs of the iPhone 7 Plus screen as costing $149, while many others fall in the $129-$139 mark. Still, even if you do get the full $100 from Zagg, only having to pay $50 yourself for the repair is a pretty sweet deal. The plan itself also only applies to the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, and later iPhone models, so if you’re still rocking an iPhone 5s, you’re a little out of luck.

“We take great pride in our industry-leading InvisibleShield lifetime warranty program,” said Brian Setch, president of Zagg, in a statement. “With our new InvisibleShield Screen Guarantee Plan, the best just got better. If your screen breaks with our products protecting it, we will help pay for the repair. We want our customers to live without the fear of unexpected drops and resulting damage that are so disruptive to their mobile lifestyle.”

One more thing– if you’re lucky enough to be attending CES this year, look out for InvisibleShield agents, which will be scouring the show looking for phones to install InvisibleShield on — for free. Check out the video below for more info.
