White rum goes hand in hand with fruit flavors. There is no combination that goes together better. Which is exactly why the refreshingly smooth taste of a high quality rum and the lemon-lime bite of Sprite makes such a perfect cocktail.
What is a Rum and Sprite?
The tradition of soft drinks as a mixer for liquor goes back for what seems like forever. Maybe its the sweet flavor. Maybe its the fizzy nature of the carbonation. Whatever it is, they blend together perfectly.
If Rum isn’t your favorite, there are several other Sprite based cocktails. Some of our favorites are the Vodka and Sprite, Gin and Sprite, and Tequila and Sprite.
This recipe is one of the quickest and easiest drinks you can make. That makes it the perfect companion for any meal and occasion. Add this to your weekend plans or kick back at the end of a long work day.
Other Soft Drink Mixers
Sprite isn’t the only soft drink that goes well in a cocktail. Ginger Ale, Coca-Cola (or Pepsi, if that’s your thing), Mountain Dew or even Root Beer. Some of our favorite soft drink based drinks are the Rum and Mountain Dew, Jack and Coke, Whiskey and Root Beer aka Lynchburg Beer, and the rum and 7up.

Rum and Sprite Cocktail Recipe
We normally use Rum in tropical alcoholic drinks but realized that it mixes great with Sprite. The lemon-lime flavor with the rich flavor of rum is fantastic.
The most popular rum cocktails include Daiquiri, Mai Tai, Pina Colada, raspberry mojito, Dark 'n Stormy, Jungle Bird, Dark Mojito, Coquito, the Painkiller, and of course Hot Buttered Rum.
Each of these cocktails tastes amazing and is a fantastic way to mix with Rum. We also wanted to share a simple two-ingredient rum cocktail for the nights you don't want to take the time to mix a multi-step cocktail.
Ingredients
- Rum
- Sprite
Garnish - Lime Wedge/lime slice or lemon wedge depending on your preference.
Rum - We suggest using white rum, but you can change the flavor by using dark rum, flavored rum, or Spiced rum and Sprite.
Coconut rum and Sprite is amazing. You could also mix it with peach rum or any fruity type of rum.
Sprite - You can use regular Sprite, Sprite zero, or any variation and flavor of Sprite you enjoy.
Equipment Needed
Rocks Glass - Rocks glasses are also called lowball glasses or old-fashioned glasses.
Bartending Spoon - The long handle on bartending spoons makes it really easy to stir the cocktails and not make a mess.
OXO angled jiggers - these are our go-to measuring tools for cocktails. They work perfectly for pouring in layers for cocktails.
Ice Cube maker - This ice cube maker produces the most amazing cubes of ice perfect for cocktails. It easily fits in the freezer, and you can make up to 3 trays of round ball ice at a time.
How to make a Rum and Sprite

Recipe Tips
You can adjust the amount of rum in your cocktail based on taste and how strong you want the drink to be.
There is no need to use a cocktail shaker with Sprite. Shaking the Sprite will cause a bubbly mess.
Soda is a great mixer for cocktails. We love mixing with Coke, Pepsi, ginger beer, root beer, cream soda, and other flavors of soda pop.
