Can I buy a Ukrainian flag to support Ukraine?

🇺🇦 10% of each flag sold is donated to World Central Kitchen which is, at this moment, providing hot food to refugees and soldiers in Ukraine.

We've now been able to donate over $8,000 to Ukranian aid!

🏴  National flag of Ukraine with grommets and double stitched edges to reduce fraying.

✍️  The Design: The national flag of Ukraine has two equally sized horizontal bands of blue and yellow. The colors of our flag appear a bit darker than some may be used to. But rest assured we are using the official colors stated by the Ukrainian Government.

Our flags are durable 200D polyester (most flags you'll find on the internet are cheap ~75D). In our testing, we selected 200D as the perfect flag material; anything heavier doesn't fly well and the "back" doesn't get enough ink, anything lighter feels cheap and wont last very long.

We print this flag as a one-sided print and make sure that the back has ample (around 90%) bleed-through.

Each flag is folded by hand on our dining room table and ready to be used on a flag pole, boat, hung on a wall, or to proudly march with.

I don't know what is wrong with people these days

The flag is just a symbol. What Ukraine desperately need right now is monetary donations.

So just make a flag yourself.

  1. Buy cloth

  2. buy yellow paint

  3. buy blue paint

  4. make Ukraine flag yourself

Donate the money you saved from not buying a professionally made flag to Ukraine.

It does not matter how badly constructed your DIY Ukraine flag is. What really matters to the Ukrainian people is how much you support Ukraine.

Many places are already sold out as the war rages on

The New York Times reported this morning that amid the ongoing Russian war against Ukraine, thousands of people are rushing to purchase Ukrainian flags here in the United States. They’re likely doing this to show their unity for the country.

As a result, many flag sellers are apparently running out of inventory. They’re scrambling to fulfill these orders and to produce more Ukraine flags for a public that’s clearly eager to voice their support.

Amazon Still Has Some Flags, But Shipping Is Delayed

In reviewing any available options, it appears that several companies do still have flags in stock. Many of these are available on Amazon. Be prepared for longer shipping times than normal, however.

As I write this, the top-selling Ukrainian flag comes from the company DANF. In fact, it’s the number one bestseller in all flags and banners. Several different Ukrainian flags have taken top spots in Amazon’s flag best-seller list, too. Normally, American flags dominate the list. The DANF is a full-size flag, measuring 3x5 feet. The good news is that it appears you can still get one. The bad news is that it will take about a week to arrive, or potentially longer. (I purchased one today and will see how long it takes to ship).

Small handheld flags appear to be popular as well. The challenge is that, again, these are severely delayed. One set that was recently released takes almost 3 weeks to ship, and costs $3.99 just for the shipping. One of the most popular variations on the flag concept is a bumper sticker with an expletive about Vladimir Putin, also featuring the Ukrainian flag.

Beyond Amazon, Etsy and other handmade retails are creating their own variations on the Ukraine flag. Since many of these are handmade, you can often have them delivered faster than mass-produced alternatives. Plus, you get to support an independent artist.

Another perhaps surprising source? Walmart appears to have a variety of Ukraine flags in stock. Shipping is delayed, as with Amazon, but you can still get a flag within 1–2 weeks as I write this. You can check out one example from Walmart here.

Create a DIY Ukraine Flag

If you don’t want to wait to have one of these flags delivered, there are plenty of options to create your own DIY alternatives and show support. For example, you can download a public domain, high-resolution image of the Ukrainian flag from Wikipedia. You can then print that out on your own paper, or take it to a local large format printing store to have it printed on vinyl. I’ve used Signs by Tomorrow before for this kind of thing, and they deliver vinyl prints fast, albeit at a price.

Another option would be to purchase plain white fabric, download the flag image, print it on inkjet transfer paper with your home printer, and then iron it onto the white fabric to create a flag. The issue here is that you’ll be limited to the size of your home printer, which is probably only 8.5 x 11 inches. Still, if you’re looking to make a yard emblem or a hand-held flag, that might work fine.

The other good news is that the Ukrainian flag also has a fairly simple design, featuring a large blue stripe above a large yellow one. Painting a DIY version of the flag would be relatively straightforward. Simply take a material like cloth or vinyl, and cut a large sheet of it. A size of around 5 feet wide by 3 feet high mirrors professional flags like those from DANF. Then, use fabric paint to create your own version of the flag, painting the two strips alongside each other. Both blue and yellow paints are available on Amazon currently. You can even get white flags to paint at home.

You can even create a DIY Ukraine flag to display in your window, bring to a peace rally, or place in your office using nothing more than construction paper and some basic art supplies. It takes about 5 minutes. Here are the steps to follow, along with a video showing the process:

Finally, Unsplash has a variety of colorful images of the Ukrainian flag flying at flag poles or otherwise displayed in the world. These can make a great addition to a DIY poster or other art projects showing your support for Ukraine, and are free to download and use.

Displaying a Ukraine flag is a wonderful way to show your support for the country (ideally accompanied by a donation to support humanitarian relief). You can buy a flag, or easily make your own using these tips.

What does the blue and yellow Ukraine flag mean?

The colours symbolize blue sky above the yellow field of wheat representing Ukraine and the Ukrainians as they are – freedom-loving, independent, brave, and vibrant. Ukrainian flag with its ancient history holds a significant place in the heart of the Ukrainian people and is a nation's talisman through all times.

What does the Red and Black Ukraine flag mean?

"The red is for love and the black is for sorrow and how they are intertwined," Balan said of the earlier symbolism. Later, those colours became associated with Ukrainian nationalism.

How do you hang the Ukraine flag?

When hung like a banner or draped, the blue band should be on the left. When flown from a vertical flagpole, the blue band must face the mast.
