Botox at 50 before and after

In our 50s we continue to see loss of volume in the face which can contribute to marionette lines, nasolabial folds and loss of cheek volume. Lines can start to appear around the lips and we tend to lose lip volume. Crows feet, frown lines and forehead lines on the face become deeper and more noticeable. Sun exposure and smoking can speed up the development of lines so make sure you are wearing high factor sunscreen.

If you look at the diagram below you can see the changes that occur in the face from our 20s to 50s. The shape of the face in teenage years and 20s looks like an inverted triangle – volume at the top and tailing off gently to the chin. As we age the shape of the face changes – we become heavier around the chin, jowl and lower face and lose volume from the cheeks. The aims of treatments in your 50s are to try try and restore the inverted triangle shape to the face and to soften shadows that have appeared in the nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

We often ask patients to use a word to describe how they look. Patients in their 50s will often say that they look “sad” or “angry”. The sad appearance can often be due to the corners of the mouth turning downwards and the development of marionette lines. We want people to say that you look rested or fresh and our treatments are aimed towards this.

Anti-wrinkle treatments in your 50s

The aims of anti-wrinkle treatments in your 50s are to soften the lines on the face whilst keeping the results natural. We don’t necessarily want to get rid of all the lines but helping you look refreshed and rested is often the goal. By treating the frown lines (brow) and just below the eyebrows we can lift the brow and open up the eyes. Crows feet aren’t necessarily a bad thing but sometimes then can distract from other great features.

Be careful when treating forehead lines – this can sometimes do more harm than good. The forehead muscle is the only muscle that lifts the eyebrows – try it for yourself in the mirror. If we start treating the forehead lines too much it can cause the eyebrows to look heavy or flat which is the opposite of what we want to achieve.

Anti-wrinkle injections can be used to treat upper lip lines and to prevent the mouth corners from downturning.

Dermal filler treatment in your 50s

The aim of dermal filler treatments in your 50s is to replace the volume that has been lost. Volume loss causes marionette lines to form, the cheeks to flatten and for you to develop nasolabial folds. We aim to correct this volume loss in a subtle, natural way. We are trying to revert the shape of the face towards the inverted triangle that was present in your younger years.

Nasolabial folds are the shadows from the nose corner to the side of the mouth. These become more noticeable as we age due to to loss of volume in the cheeks.

Cost of dermal filler treatments

The cost of dermal filler depends on the amount of dermal filler used. Each vial of dermal filler at Cityskin is 1ml. As a general rule you need to use thinner fillers in the lips and under the eyes and thicker fillers in the areas where you want more lift (lower face and cheeks).

At Cityskin we charge from $700 for 1ml of dermal filler, depending on the filler used. Have a read of our dermal filler cost page to find out more about all treatment prices.

If you stop BOTOX treatments after many years of regular injections, the only effect will be that your wrinkles will return, albeit a bit more slowly than if you had not been using BOTOX. It's true: Even after you stop, you will still look younger than you would have if you had never been injected.

Do you look older after Botox wears off?
