Buyer’s Guide
NEW FOR 2012: - Front-wheel drive models receive larger 300-mm front brake discs - Fuel tank capacity increased from 55 to 58 litres - GL adds heated front seats For 2012, the Hyundai Tucson undergoes minor changes. The front brake discs on front-wheel drive models are 20 mm larger, the fuel tank is larger, and the GL receives heated front seats. The Tucson uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder in the L, and a 2.4-litre four-cylinder in the GL, GLS and Limited. The 2.0-litre comes with a five-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic, while the 2.4-litre comes only with a six-speed automatic. The L is front-wheel drive only. The GL and GLS come in front-wheel drive but can be optioned to all-wheel drive. The Limited is all-wheel drive only. The system runs primarily in front-wheel but can be locked into 50/50 at speeds under 30 km/h. Features on the L include 17-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, cloth seats and interior trim, 60/40 split-folding rear seats, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary, USB and iPod system, tilt steering wheel, downhill brake control, hill start assist, driver’s auto-down window, rear spoiler, variable intermittent wipers, rear washer/wiper, dual vanity mirrors, and tire pressure monitoring system. When the automatic transmission is ordered, the L also includes keyless entry with alarm. The GL adds keyless entry, heated seats, Bluetooth connectivity and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. The GLS adds 17-inch alloy wheels, XM satellite radio, body-colour mirrors and handles, fog lights, windshield wiper de-icer, roof rails, privacy glass, heated cloth seats with “leatherette” bolsters, and leather-wrapped tilt and telescopic steering wheel. The Limited adds 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic headlamps, chrome-accented grille with black lower air intake, chrome door handles, auto-dimming rearview mirror, garage door opener, mirrors with integrated turn signals, outside temperature display, panoramic sunroof, eight-way power driver’s seat, leather upholstery, and solar control glass. The Limited with Navigation adds an amplifier and subwoofer, touch-screen navigation system and rearview camera.

Issue: Hyundai Auto Canada is conducting a Product Improvement Campaign that provides an update to the engine control module to detect potential problems before an engine fails. An engine failure would cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Note: This only affects vehicles equipped with a 2.4 L MPI engine. For the Sonata model, only the Sonata Hybrid is affected by this campaign. All vehicles previously included in TC # 2021-033 are now part of this new campaign. Vehicles that were previously repaired under campaign R0181 (Transport Canada #2021-033) do not require this software update. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident. An engine failure could also create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the engine control module. Note: Hyundai recommends that you should always follow the correct vehicle maintenance schedule, which is printed in the Owner's Manual. If you experience unusual engine noise, reduced power, or a check engine/oil warning light, Hyundai advises you to immediately visit a Hyundai dealership to have your vehicle diagnosed.

Issue: The engine oil pan seal could leak on some vehicles with a 2.4 L engine. If the leak is not repaired, over time this could lead to engine damage or an engine failure. An engine failure would cause a sudden loss of motive power with an inability to restart. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of motive power could increase the risk of a crash. In some cases, an engine failure may also result in a fire. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Hyundai dealers will replace the vehicle’s engine oil pressure switch with a new one. Dealers will also inspect the engine’s oil pan, and if necessary, replace the oil pan. Note: A driver may notice any of the following symptoms before an engine failure: an oil leak under the vehicle, a smell of hot or burning oil, a knocking sound from the engine, reduced power or hesitation, a check engine light, and/or an oil pressure warning light.

On certain vehicles, bolts securing the driver's front airbag to the steering wheel may have been insufficiently tightened. This could allow the airbag to become loose or detach from the steering wheel, which could affect airbag deployment and increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: Dealers will verify bolt torque.
